James J. Federici | 1937 | Inducted 1971

Played football, basketball, baseball and golf for three years – track one year. Lettered in these five sports in one year. Named to All Ohio football and basketball squads. 1934-35 and all conference teams in 1934-35. Named Findlay College Athlete of Year 1936. Still active in sports winning the Ohio Senior Golf Championship 1971. Findlay Country Club championship in 1959 and 1969. Along with brothers named to Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame. Successful businessman and community leader.

Outstanding Oiler quarterback 1946 – 1949. Led outstanding team of 1947 to season of 9 wins 1 loss. Lettered in basketball 1946-47. Outstanding High School Football and Wrestling Coach. Former president and leader OHSAA Football Coaches Assn. Named to OHSAA Football Hall of Fame, named along with brothers to Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame. Author of book to assist football coaches. Distinguished community leader.

Charles E. Hirshey | 1936 | Inducted 1971

Leading scorer in Ohio during College Career All Conference End and All Ohio Honorable Mention. One of States Top Extra Point Scorers. Acting Captain of football team. Lettered two years in Basketball as a guard. Lettered three years in Track, Captain, senior year. Holder of FC High Jump Record and leading scorer in Track. Distinguished Educator and supporter of higher education.

Donald S. Renninger | 1940 | Inducted 1971

Outstanding quarterback, All Conference All-Ohio Honorable Mention 1939. Picked as member of Midwest College Allstars to play Cleveland Rams 1940. Lettered in basketball three years, All Conference Honorable Mention 1939-40. Lettered in baseball two years. Findlay College Athletic Director 14 years. Outstanding coach football, basketball, baseball, wrestling, track and golf – president Mid-Ohio Conference, chairman District #22 NAIA. Producer of many outstanding coaches, two of these graduates had state basketball champions their first year of coaching. Community and church leader.

John G. Routzon | 1924 | Inducted 1971

Outstanding basketball forward on Findlay College teams 1920-21-22-23, captain of team 1920 and 21. One of top scorers for Findlay College having scored all of team’s points but 48 for an entire season. Lettered in football in 1921-22 and baseball in 1922. Recognized as Chamber of Commerce Executive in Ohio and Michigan. Known as the Father of Van Wert Ohio Peony Festival. Always a promoter of civic pride wherever he resides.

Edward Sustersic | 1948 | Inducted 1971

Outstanding Findlay College fullback, 1946-48. Named All-Ohio Fullback 1947. Most Valuable Player 1948, also highest scorer for season. Named to A.P. and I.N.S. All-Ohio Conference first team in ’48. Outstanding heavyweight wrestler and student coach – winning AAU Northeastern Ohio Championship in ’47 and second in Interstate Tournament in 1948. Joined Cleveland Browns professional football team 1948 to 1950. Became outstanding football – wrestling coach and athletic administrator in Cleveland area high schools.

George E. Blackburn | 1936 | Inducted 1972

A four year letterman in football and baseball at Findlay College – Captain of both teams. Recognized leader of Football Coaches in America. Was both assistant and head coach at Miami (Ohio). U of Cincinnati and U for Virginia, assistant football coach at U.S. Military Academy West Point. Led Miami Indians to Mid Am Conference title in 1948. Coach of the Year Atlantic Conference e1969. Member of Am. Football Coaches Assn. Committees and Clinics. NFL Football Scout. A leader in his community, devoted husband and father.

Hayden “Dub” Fouts | 1932 | Inducted 1972

A four sport letterman at Findlay College football, basketball 1927-31, baseball – track. Tried out with N.Y. Yankees 1931. Inducted into Federal Bureau of Investigation in 1942 as Special Agent. Is well known as coach, teacher and school administrator. Won Ohio Elementary Principals Association Golf Championship title 1972. Designer, builder and operator of Miniature golf courses. An active community leader who advocates the highest ideals for the development of youth.

Bernard Lee Himmeger | 1956 | Inducted 1972

Outstanding Findlay College Basketball player four years. Lettered also in Baseball and Track. Coaching career includes two state championship basketball teams 1957 and 1961. Named Ohio Basketball Coach of the Year three years. Outstanding leader in athletic organizations at state school administration and community. President OHSBCA and member Basketball Coaches Hall of Fame. Leader and teacher of young men. Devoted husband and father.

Findlay College football star named All Conference Center in 1933. Faculty member at Findlay 1935, assistant coach of football until 1942. Head Coach and Athletic Director 1942, 46, 47, 48. Football record 24 wins and 10 losses and 2 ties – 1947 team, one the best in Findlay College athletic history. Athletic Director, Coach Mount Union College 1949. Red Cross Recreational Director 1943-45. Outstanding business career. Leader of men in finest traditions of athletic competitions.

Harold “Herk” Wolfe | 1954 | Inducted 1972

Outstanding Findlay College Basketball player lettered 3 years, one year in track. Nation’s leading scorer in 1952. Held Virginia Prep School scoring record in 1949. Held NAIA single tournament game field goal record of 25 until 1972. Holds FC single game scoring record 62 points. Named to A.P. All Ohio and All American Basketball teams. Inducted in NAIA Helms Foundation Hall of Fame Distinguished Alumnus of Findlay College Member NAIA Distinguished Athletics Association. Leader of Varsity F Alumni. Active in many organizations of the community and the business world.

Robert V. Wortman | 1951 | Inducted 1972

Lettered in football, baseball and basketball three years. Holder of the individual single game scoring record 52 points in the old FC gymnasium. Professional baseball five years with Cleveland Indians farm system. Sports official since 1947 – recognized as a top football official in country having worked with professional football AFL and NFL since 1964. Was chosen for Pro-Super Bowl Game 1972. Outstanding official in collegiate basketball. Active businessman. Devoted father and husband.

Arthur Burton | 1949 | Inducted 1973

Outstanding football guard for Findlay College, lettering four years in this sport. He was named three years in a row to All Ohio and All Conference Teams, two years on first team and one year the second team All Ohio. Was a letterman one year in track. Named WHO’S WHO in AMERICAN COLLEGES and UNIVERSITIES. Was Varsity F president and treasurer. Has distinguished himself in education as a coach at Olmsted Falls and Fostoria. Now teaching occupational work experience. Received M.A. from University of Toledo in 1961. In his 25th year of teaching, devoted, husband, father of two sons, community leader. Severed his country for four year in Air Force.

Phillip O. Downing | 1919 | Inducted 1973

Renowned for excellence in three major sports while at Findlay College. Lettered in football as quarterback, in basketball as a forward, in baseball as a second baseman. Played semi-pro basketball with Goodyear team in Akron. Earned Master Rubber Worker’s degree, was coach of Goodyear team in Los Angeles in 1921. Has led distinguished life in business in both the oil industry and the aircraft industry. Now retired and living in Downey, California.

Robert Hutton | 1931 | Inducted 1973

Outstanding all around athlete at Findlay College third baseman four years for baseball team, half-back four years in football, guard four years in basketball team. Named highest scorer in state in 1931. Coaching record includes schools of Mt. Cory, Upper Sandusky, Farmington, Michigan and Romeo Michigan. Distinguished himself as Director of Guidance for Romeo, Michigan schools. Holder of two masters’ degrees, one in administration and one in guidance. Devoted father and involved citizen, now retired from active teaching. 

Robert W. Peters | 1933 | Inducted 1973

A three-year letter winner in basketball, captain of the team. Won three letters in baseball, was captain 1931 and 1933. Assisted coaching football and was trainer for Stu Holcomb. Severed as President of Varsity F and active in many campus clubs and programs. Voted “Most Outstanding Freshman” and “Most Popular Man on Campus.” Tried out for Cleveland Indians and served for number of years as scout for the Indians. In Cooperstown Baseball Hall of Fame for activities with American Legion Team-Bellevue. As Recreation Director of Bellevue, Ohio has been honored by his community for a life devoted to young and old alike in providing re-creative activities. Named Outstanding Citizen of Community, honored by many organizations for his devotion to cause of youth. 

Lewin Vermillion | 1931 | Inducted 1973

Four-year letterman in football, captain 1929-30. Four year letterman in basketball – varsity foul shooting champion 1929 – varsity baseball four years, varsity trackman two years. Has done 55 additional hours of graduate work in administration at The Ohio State University. In his 40th year as an educator and his 32nd year as a school administrator. He is superintendent of the Highland Local Schools, Medina, Ohio. Always a tough competitor, he has continued active community relations. Is devoted husband and father of four children.

Kenneth Williams | 1929 | Inducted 1973

Native of Findlay, Ohio who distinguished himself as football quarterback, helping Findlay College Oilers in 1929 NW Ohio Championship. As safety never dropped a punt nor allowed opposition to score over him. Never weighed more than 122 pounds. Played guard on basketball team and was track dash man. A man whose spirit has led him to new heights throughout his life. Retired from profession with State Liquor Department. Worked Y.M.C.A. in Findlay and Columbus and reached the heights in Masonic Orders of Ohio Thirty Third Degree Mason. Grand Master of the Most Worshipful Prince Hall Grand Lodge, Grand Commander of Grand Community Knights Templar, Grand High Priest of Most Excellent Chapter of Ohio Royal Arch Masons. Devoted churchman and father.

Richard M. Carter | 1950 | Inducted 1974

A Findlay College athlete of outstanding ability. Lettering in football four years, baseball four years named All-Mid-Ohio ’47, ’48, and ’49. Lettered in basketball three years. Had outstanding collegiate football career as quarterback lettering four years. Named as all-time third baseman for City of Columbus soft ball leagues. Tried out with four major league baseball team. Outstanding leader in Y.M.C.A. work as well as other community activities. A leader in community relations and human understanding. Named to 1974 Who’s Who in Professional and Human Services by Academy of Human relations. Member Columbus, Ohio Community Relations Commission and a member of The Central Ohio Transit Authority. Devotes much time to church and civic interest. Member Findlay College Board of Trustees and Executive Committee, past president Alumni Association. Devoted alumnus, husband and father.

Harold H. Castor | 1929 | Inducted 1974

A member of Findlay College’s first championship team in the Northwestern Ohio Conference composed of Toledo, Bowling Green, Defiance and Bluffton. Outstanding football star – lettered four years in this sport, two years in baseball and one year in basketball at Findlay. Taught three years at the Stark County town of Greentown. Taught from 1933 to 1965 at Arlington High School. At the end of his coaching career, 1962, had a better than 800 percent won lost record. His teams had won 175 games, lost 32, with 12 ties. They won 13 championships and went 9 seasons undefeated. His longest winning streak was 44 games. He inspired young men to give their best. His 36 years in the classroom and 33 years as a coach reserved a place for him in the athletic Hall of Fame. It also reserved a place for him in the hearts of those who played for him.

Stuart “Stu” H. Holcomb | 1932 | Inducted 1974

Outstanding athlete at O.S.U. captain football ’31, lettered in basketball and water polo. Contributions to collegiate sports began in 1932 at Findlay College as coach of all sports. Had outstanding records – 1933 baseball team won Northwest Ohio Championship. Had outstanding coaching and administrative records at Muskingum, Washington and Jefferson, Miami of Ohio, West Point, and Northwestern. His devotion to sports led to management of the Chicago Mustangs pro soccer club and then to Vice President and General Manager of the Chicago White Sox. He was named major league baseball executive of the year 1972. He is now assistant to the President of the White Sox. A devoted man who has always led or coached with conviction, truth and compassion, a devoted husband and father.

Richard H. Krauss | 1950 | Inducted 1974

Outstanding Findlay College Basketball Player letter each year of college. Active in many school events. Had outstanding coaching career at Holgate, Liberty Center and Patrick Henry where he is now superintendent. He took the 1953 Holgate team to State Tournament. Has held high office in Ohio High School Athletic: Board of Control, Board Member, Vice President and President. Has devoted much of his life to the theory and practice of sports and has become as well a school administrator. A concerned community leader, devoted husband and father.

H. Richard Severns | Findlay College 22 to 25, O.S.U. Class of 1926 | Inducted 1974

Outstanding athlete at all sports at Findlay College. Had outstanding coaching career market by two teams never scored on. Coached and taught at Chardon. Moved onto new and greater areas in administration at Chardon High School as principal. Then became superintendent at Newbury High School and later as superintendent of Mt. Cory High School. In 1941 joined Cooper Tire and Rubber Company as a salesman and was District Sales Manager for the Indianapolis Region at his death in 1969. A true sportsman and athlete, on who played the game to its fullest, a devoted husband and father.

Miller A. Fink | 1941 | Inducted 1975

A leader in American Industry today who distinguished himself first as an athlete then as coach and teacher then as an engineer, manager and inventor. Lettered three years each in football and basketball, captained the basketball in 1941. Taught and coached at Liberty Township High school and Cory Rawson High School. One of his football teams in the early 50’s was not scored on, untied, undefeated. Served his county in World War II, attained rank of Captain. Has been engineer and plant manager and manager of manufacturing for the A.B. Chance Co., Baxter Co. and Swedlow, Inc. He is a registered engineer in two states. Has served the state of Missouri as a member of the Governor’s Committee on Education, active in politics, City Councilman for 10 years, and the Kiwanis Club. Has held many positions in the church. Author of many articles, and received National Engineering Award for best use of materials. He is married and the father of three daughters, a recognized leader in the field of plastics and industrial management.

James D. Houdeshell | 1953 | Inducted 1975

A distinguished career in Health and Physical Education which over the past 20 years at Findlay College has seen many outstanding records for Dr. Houdeshell. As Athletic Director and Chamber of the Division of HPER he chaired the Planning and the building Committee for Croy Physical Education Center. In coaching he has amassed a record of 283 wins against 108 losses in basketball. Participated in 10 NAIA District 22 playoffs. Won three District Championships. Participated in three NAIA National Tournaments. Had three players chosen to NAIA All-American teams and has been selected as coach of the year twice. His other coaching duties have included baseball, two championships, football, track and field, four championships, and Cross Country, one championship. He has aided Findlay College materially in building a strong certification program for men and women in HPER. He is active in Hancock County and Findlay community affairs. He is a devoted husband and father of one son. Active in church affairs and committed to the best that can be attained at Findlay College.

Ignatius “Iggy” Mancuso | 1945 | Inducted 1975

One of Findlay College’s great all time wrestlers and coaches with a personal record of 25 wins and five losses in dual meets, 12 wins, four losses in tournaments, taking top placing in 4-1 and AAU tournaments over a period of four years. Coaching record shows 51 wins, five losses, one tie at Van Buren with Regional Championship, Findlay College 68 wins, 33 losses, 4 ties, invitational champions. Head Freshman Coach, Ohio State, three wins, no losses in 1958. Received Silver Award of American Petroleum Institute in 1955 was named Outstanding Salesman of the Marathon Oil Company in 1958. As a business teacher, has held positions as regional State Director and Vice President of Cooperative Office Education and was Assistant Director Curriculum Development for Cleveland State. He is manager of Central Office Services for Cleveland Board of Education. Has authored book for office procedure in high school teaching. A father of four daughters, a grandfather and husband, great athlete, businessman, teach and scholar. 

Leroy “Cot” Marquette | 1955 | Inducted 1975

Outstanding varsity basketball player for Findlay College received All Ohio Honorable Mention in 1953. Before college played professional baseball with the Cleveland Indians. As high school coach had outstanding record over 11 years, 165 wins, 64 losses, 3 county championships, 5 conference, 4 sectional, 2 district and 1 regional championship. Was runner-up in state one year with record of 26 wins and one loss. Coached Junior College ball four years with 60 wins and 37 losses. Named Coach of the Year three times. Coached the Ohio Basketball Summer Classic. His coaching career has included Miller City High School, Fremont Ross and Rossford High Schools. He has coached Owns Technical College where he became Athletic Director, the Director of Admissions and Public Relations and in 1975 was named Vice President for Public Relations, Admissions and Student Activities. He is also a sports analyst for radio WSPD and serves the community in many other ways. As a husband and father, he and his wife have two boys and two girls. An outstanding athlete, leader of young men.

Richard W. Prince | 1953 | Inducted 1975

An outstanding athlete at Findlay College having lettered four years in each sport, football, basketball, and baseball. Named to All-Mid Ohio Football Team 1951-52-53, was all Mid-Ohio in basketball in 1952 and ’53, member of the NAIA Kansas City Team of 1951-52 and 52-53 season. President of Varsity F and a member of Who’s Who in American Colleges and Universities. Has distinguished himself as a coach and high school administrator. He is Dean of Students, Athletic Director and Baseball Coach at Elida High School where he has taught for 20 years. He has coached varsity football and basketball and his baseball teams have been in 1958 and the District Finals in 1975. He has coached Elida Acme Team which was named State Champs in 1971 and runner-up in 1972. He is an active Lutheran Layman and the recipient of the F.J. Egner Outstanding Coaches Award for baseball in 1975. He is a devoted husband and father of two boys and true leader of young men and women.

Herald L. Roettger | 1918 | Inducted 1975

An outstanding coach who started his career at Lambertville, N.J. and had a 14 win, 2 loss record in baseball and a 7 win, 1 loss, 1 tie record in football for the State Class B Championship. Records at Lockland, Ohio showed a football record of 174 wins, 68 losses, 18 ties, two teams undefeated and eight lost only one game. In basketball 238 wins, 175 losses, was runner-up in State Class B in 1937. Coached Lockland “Legion L Club” football team which were Midwestern champs for four years with 42 wins and 2 losses. As a Findlay undergraduate earned letters in football, basketball, and baseball under Coaches Harry Barnhart, Pearl Rice and Fred Ross. Stadium at Lockland is named for him, “Roettger Field.” Is in Central Ohio and National Football Hall of Fame, was OHSFCA Board Member and President in 1947: coached Southern All Stars in 1952. The father of two children, a leader of young people, recognized for his devotion and service to his community.

Pearl Henry Adams, Jr. | 1951 | Induced 1976

Outstanding athlete of Findlay College lettering in football, basketball, baseball, and track. Was named All Mid-Ohio Back and All Ohio as fullback for championship team of Mid-Ohio Conference in 1950. Active in Varsity F as a student, a real competitor with respect for athletics and its benefits for the individual. Has distinguished himself in government service, now serving the Employment Services Commission.

Odell C. Barry, Jr. | 1965 | Inducted 1976

Recognized as one of Findlay College’s great athletes, lettering in football and track and still holding track and field records at Findlay. Unofficially tied world record for the 100-yard dash. Listed in Who’s Who in American College and Universities. Played for Denver Broncos 1964-65, holds AFL and NFL record for most return yards gained in one season. Honored by many groups in Denver. Outstanding Denver businessman and politician. Leader of youth and organizer of community projects to assist young people. Vice President of 800 Real Estate.

Roland O. Marquette | 1955 | Inducted 1976

All Mid-Ohio Basketball Player in 1954. Named WFIN Most Valuable Player in 1954 as well as Who’s Who in American Colleges and universities. Lettered in baseball and track. Career as a teacher-coach started at Kalida, then Sylvania, where he became administrator at Sylvania Junior High school in 1964. Served Mansfield Malabar High School from 1968 to 1972 as principal of Ashland High School. Active in community, church and professional organizations.

Floyd G. Marshall | 1965 | Inducted 1976

One of Findlay College’s all time great wrestlers with a college career in dual matches of 23 wins, 1 loss. Took 4-1 championship in 1963-64, NAIA national third place winner in 1963, national champion in 1964, in Olympic finals in 1964, and national second place winner in 1965. Teacher and coach at Norwin High School where a five-year record of 53 wins, 15 losses, and 2 ties has been established. Is a member of the Pittsburgh area classis selection committee. Teams have won two sectional championships, three county championships.

John “Fred” Polinski | 1959 | Inducted 1976

One of Findlay College’s great basketball players. A four year letterman named most valuable players in 1957-58 and 1958-59, receiving the WFIN Award. Was co-captain of the college team and All Mid-Ohio team in 1958-59. Picked for honorable mention in the All Ohio Team in 1957-58. His lifetime scoring total was 1423, the fourth highest record for Findlay College roundballers. Has distinguished himself as basketball coach and teacher of mathematics.

Howard J. Trostmiller | 1937 | Inducted 1976

Outstanding Findlay College athlete lettering in football, basketball and baseball. Star end and halfback, outstanding pitcher, high scorer in football in 1936. Taught school and coached for 27 years at Lykens, Mt. Cory, Cory Rawson, and Arlington. Named basketball Coach of the Year in 1962. Sent two basketball teams to district finals – always a contender. Past President and active member of Varsity F. A true supporter of Findlay College.

Forrest Creason | ’37, BGSU, OSU | Inducted 1977

A Life Long Career devoted to giving Young Men and women the very best in Sports through his Work and Coaching. Letterman at Findlay College, four years in football and track, two in basketball. Coach at Bowling Green State University in football, basketball, and track. A community leader wherever his career has taken him. President of Wood County Heart Association. Member of Wood County Library Board and Cancer Society, and the Official Board of the First Methodist Church of Bowling Green. A truly Outstanding Athlete, Coach, Community Leader, and Humanitarian.

Byron E. “By” Morgan, Sr. | Geneva, ‘40’ Pittsburgh | Inducted 1977

Findlay College Head Football Coach, 1963-74. Distinguished Career in College Coaching of 32 years, ending at Findlay College with a record of 56 wins, 35 losses, and 2 ties. Named Ohio Coach of the Year in 1864. Lead 1965 team to national NAIA semi-finals. Coached an Oiler win at the Ohio Shrine Bowl. President of NAIA Football Coaches Association. Member of NAIA, Magadore High School and Geneva College Hall of Fame. Holder of many regional and national coaching offices. City Council Member. Honored at “By Morgan Day,” Findlay College June, 25 1977.

William Max Nonnamaker | 1951| Inducted 1977

Four year football letterman at Findlay College. Outstanding in athletic endeavors, outstanding in service to the rubber industry and cultural growth of his adopted city Akron. President of Nonnmaker and Associates. Tire expert in more the 750 cases, consultant and products tester. Member of the Findlay College Board of Trustees, Varsity F, and Alumni Association. A distinguished Industrialist and Leader.

William G. Stover | 1961 | Inducted 1977

An Outstanding Teacher-Coach at Findlay College lettering in track, basketball, and baseball. Called a “one-man team” in track, always entering high jump, pole vault, long jump, 100-yard dash, high and low hurdles and mile relay.  Helped reorganize Findlay College Track in 1965 while coaching and teaching at Riverdale High School. Director for federal programs in Holmes County Schools, federal coordinator and elementary principal for East Holmes Local Schools. Active Alumnus and Varsity F member.

Frank R. Erme | 1952 | Inducted 1978

A former all-round athlete for Findlay College. Letterman in basketball, wrestling, and a little all-American football in 1951. Became a professional baseball player before entering his full time career as public school coach, teacher, and administrator. Has served the Washington Local School District and Whitmer High School since 1952. Now as Associate Principal of Student Affairs is continuing his leadership qualities exhibited while a student at Findlay College. A member of many professional organizations on local, state and national basis. Take active role in Presbyterian church work and in the Whitmer High School community. An active alumnus of Findlay College who established in member of his wife Nancy a memorial fund to be used by Findlay College cheerleaders.

Fredrick W. Evans, Jr. | 1948 | Inducted 1978

A graduate and athlete who put all of his being into developing the greatest potential in each student he taught or coached. Played and lettered four years in football at Findlay, was active Varsity F. Coached and taught four years at Gallon. Career completed at Dearborn, Michigan. HE taught physical education, and was assistant Varsity Football Coach at Edsel Ford High School, Athletic Director and Head Swimming Coach. His swimming teams won 66 meets and three league championships. Several of his swimmers were named High School All-Americans. The pool at Edsel Ford is named in his honor. He was a leader in the Dearborn community throughout the years, developing many summer programs for youth. In addition to his teaching and coaching duties, he was a Mason and churchman.

William Flanegan | 1959 | Inducted 1978

One of Findlay College’s all time wrestling stars and now a well respected and successful wrestling coach at Mansfield Senior High. He has taught and coached since graduation. Been the director for the J.G. German Invitational Tournament for 18 years and a member of the Mansfield Relays Committee for 16 years. He is past president of the Mansfield Federation of Teachers and also active in the Richland Conservation District. He lettered four years in wrestling was undefeated in 1957-58, was co-captain and undefeated in 1958-59. He represented the college trice in the national competition. He was named Alumni Coach of the Year in 1974. Buckeye Conference Coach of the Year in 1977, and District Northwest Coach of the Year in 1978.

Robert C. Hitzerow | 1942 | Inducted 1978

A retired teacher, administrator, and coach – a man who has devoted his life to the guidance and education of young people. He started his career at Findlay College and as a college athlete lettered four years in football, captain of the squad hi senior year, three years in track, was high scorer his sophomore and junior years. Played all positions in football except center and half-back. Was honorable mention Ohio Conference in 1941 and 2nd place sprinter in the Ohio Conference. He has been honored numerous times for his work in the community. He was inducted into the West Tech High School Hall of Fame, received citations from the City of Cleveland and the City of Bay Village. He was awarded the Bay Alumni Association Distinguished Educator Award. He severed in Europe in WWII and in the Korean Conflict for a total of seven years. He spent thirty-five years as an educator and coach. Received his Masters Degree from Western Reserve University in 1954. Has been an active alumnus in Varsity “F” and the Alumni Board of Governors. In 1998 he was presented the University of Findlay Distinguished Alumni Award.

Richard Van Allen | 1941 | Inducted 1978

A total athlete who lettered three years in football, basketball, and track serving as track captain one year. He also lettered in wrestling and tennis while a student at Findlay College. A distinguished coaching and teaching career in Cleveland schools and Mount Union College. Had outstanding records with teams at West Jefferson, Bowling Green, and John Marshall. Completed his career in teaching and coaching this year as Math Department Chairman. Received the greater Cleveland Football Coaches Golden Deeds Awarded in 1972. Served as a director of the West Park Y.M.C.A. for five years. His football coaching record at John Marshall was 22 and 18. His basketball coaching career brought two district champs at Bowling Green and at Mount Union he had a 12 win 8 lose record.

Conrad Lee Walcutt | 1958 | Inducted 1978

A Findlay College basketball star player who has become an outstanding community leader and high school counselor. He was a four year letterman and was captain his Junior and Senior years. Was named to the all-league fire team in both of these years. One of Findlay’s few 1,000 point scorers. Held an average record of 18.3 points over a three year period. Was a member of the 1957-58 team which ended the season with 18-4 record and a game average of 91.8 points per game. Now a guidance counselor at Upper Sandusky High School in his 20th year as an educator. Member of the Kiwanis Club Board, was president in 1972-73. He is active in United Way and the Sandusky Valley Mental Health Center Board. Truly outstanding athlete and outstanding citizen.

Francis “Sam” Brazen | 1952 | Inducted 1979

An outstanding all around athlete at Findlay College, lettering in football, baseball, and basketball as well as track. His record as a coach in his years since graduation are marked with success. During the four years he taught and coached at Montpelier, he had two NWOAI championship years in basketball and baseball. In 1957 went to Van Wert where he is the Athletic Director. His overall record saw a sectional championship and one co-league championship. Has been head golf coach for years and assisted in baseball two years. Under his leadership Van Wert High School has added men’s sports including tennis, track, wrestling, and cross country, and girl’s tennis, volleyball, basketball, and track. He has served the NWOAI as vice president two years and president two years as well as eight years on the executive council. He has been on the state executive council for AD’s for two years.

G. Garver Oxley | 1941 | Inducted 1979

One of the outstanding football players at Findlay College in the late ‘30s and the early ‘40s.  he lettered four years in the sport. He was captain in his senior year, named to the Ohio AA Star Team and played professionally with the Detroit Lions. He has been a lawyer since graduation from Ohio Northern Law School and severed Hancock County and Findlay as Prosecuting Attorney from 1958 to 1965. He has been president of both the Hancock County Bar and the Northwestern District Bar. His service at Findlay College has been long. He held chairmanship of the Country Club in the early 1960’s and the Varsity F and has been a member of the Board of Trustees. He is an active member of the Alumni Association Board of Governors.

William A. Shushok | 1960 | Inducted 1979

One of Findlay College’s all time great wrestlers. His record during his undergraduate years in this sports are remembered by many who noted his achievements. His lifetime record in college was 39 wins and 7 losses. He has taught social studies and coached at Hanover Horton High School in Jackson, Michigan since 1960. He coached football, basketball, and track from 1960-65. He began driver education teaching in 1962, and became full time driver education teacher in 1965. He has been head of the social studies department at his high school, a five year president of the Hanover Horton Teacher’s Education Association three years, chairman of the Grievance Committee for five years and is a registered official for the Michigan High School Athletic Association.

Charles Norris Simpson | 1949 | Inducted 1979

One of Findlay College’s outstanding basketball players of the late 1940’s. He lettered in basketball and football. He is one of two Findlay College basketball coaches to have a team win the state championship. His career in basketball coaching includes 13 years at Miller City and Hicksville with 184 wins and 105 losses. The 1950 team at Miller City was state champions in the Class B high school tournament. It was his first year of coaching. He coached four sports and was athletic director at one time in his career. He became a school principal at Highland High School in 1962 and is presently superintendent at the Centerburg Local School District in Central Ohio. His affiliations include ice chairman of OHSBCA, a member of the coaches Hall of Fame of the OHSBCA. He has been a member of Board of Control of the OHSAA. He has been most active in church work, Boy Scouts, the Lions Club, and the Masonic Lodge.

Robert E. Werley | 1951 | Inducted 1979

An outstanding Findlay College football and basketball player, lettering in both four years. He was named to All League All County All-Ohio first team berths as a high school athlete and to the Associate Press All League and Honorable Mention All-Ohio Basketball team for his college performance. He has had a distinguished career in coaching: 11 years football and basketball at Findlay High School, eight years as head basketball coach: 11 years head basketball coach, Corona del Mar High School, Newport Beach, California. He has taught social studies and was Counseling Coordinator for nine years. For two years he served as the ASB Advisor of the high school as well as serving as nigh coordinator for the Coastline Community College in his city. He has served the Findlay College Alumni and Varsity F well in his years since graduation.
