2014 UF Athletic Hall of Fame Class Announced

The 40th annual UF Athletic Hall of Fame induction ceremony will be held on Saturday, Jan. 25 in the Winebrenner TLB Auditorium. The doors will open at 10:15 a.m. with the induction luncheon beginning at 11:00 a.m. The cost is $22 for adults, $12 for children ages 6 through 12, and children 5-under are free. Current members of the UF Athletic Hall of Fame are complimentary. Reservations can be made by contacting The Wolfe Center for Alumni, Parents and Friends at 419-434-5687.

The inductees include:

Chuck Daniels, class of 1997: The Oilers won nearly 90 basketball games during Daniels’ career, and twice qualified for the NAIA Division I national tournament. He earned all-conference, all-region and NAIA All-America Honorable Mention recognition, and is regarded as one of the top ambassadors for the Oilers basketball program. His wife’s name is Darla, and he is the vice president of business and human resource management at The Miller Contracting Group, Inc. in Ottoville, Ohio. 

Tanea Green, class of 2003: Green as a versatile track sprinter who demonstrated a tremendous competitive drive during both meets and practices. She is still the holder of five UF school records, captured seven GLIAC titles and earned NAIA All-America in four events and NCAA All-America in five events. She was named GLIAC MVP during the 2002 indoor meet. She has children William, Mikael and Tacari. Green is employed an Express Scripts prior authorization rep in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Joe Moore, class of 1974: Moore was a baseball player who was quiet and did not seek recognition, but who provided leadership through example. He earned Findlay’s MVP award, All-Conference, All-NAIA District 22 and Area IV, and was named to the AACBC Collegiate All-America Team. He also received the President’s Scholar-Athlete Award at Findlay. His wife’s name is Donna, and they have children Robert, Melissa and Megan. Moore is employed at Spartan Chemical Company in Maumee, Ohio.

Bob Sutyak, class of 1993: Sutyak was a defensive back who started 41 consecutive games for the Oilers and ranks fifth in career interceptions with 16. UF won 35 games during his career, including an NAIA National Championship in 1992 when he recorded 10 interceptions and was named All-America. His wife’s name is Heather and they have daughters Gabrielle, Brooke and Lauren. Sutyak is a manager in global environmental, health and safety at The Lincoln Electric Company in Euclid, Ohio.

Kyle Weisenburger, class of 2003: Weisenburger was a golfer who holds both the lowest season and career averages at Findlay. He earned First Team All-GLIAC honors on four occasions, was named GLIAC Golfer-of-the-Year twice, was all-region twice and was selected NAIA All-America. He was named Male Athlete-of-the-Year at Findlay for 2000-2001. His wife’s name is Kari and they have a daughter, Karlee. Weisenburger is an intervention specialist with the Riverdale Local Schools in Mt. Blanchard, Ohio.

Clayton Westerbeck, class of 1996: Westerbeck was a two-time All-America wrestler who helped anchor Findlay’s 1995 NAIA National Championship team when he finished as an individual runner-up. He returned the following year to claim an individual title. He has also been a successful high school wrestling coach. His wife’s name is Lisa and they have children Nora and Cale. Westerbeck a principal at Sidney Alternative School in Sidney, Ohio.  

Ken Meyer, class of 1974: Meyer is only the second to be selected to receive The Lifetime Achievement Award. He recorded a 70% winning percentage over 19 seasons while serving as Marion Local’s head football coach and in 1981, the Flyers became the first team in Mercer County history to qualify for the OHSAA playoffs. His teams won four Midwest Athletic Conference titles and he was selected as the MAC’s football Coach-of-the-Year on four occasions.

As track head coach for 17 years, Meyer was selected another six times as the MAC’s Coach-of-the-Year while his teams recorded six conference, three regional and three district titles, and a girls’ State Runner-Up finish in 1989. His wife’s name is Ann and they have children Tara, Natalie and Andrew. Meyer is retired.
