Updated Learfield Cup Standings | Oilers Remain in Top 20
Findlay, OH – The second winter edition of the Learfield Sports Directors' Cup standings have been released and reveal that the University of Findlay is one of the best NCAA Division II athletic institutions in the country. With basketball now included in the standings, Oilers' athletics teams have compiled a total of 282.50 points, the same point total as two weeks ago. This point total is good for 16th in all of Division II, of which there are 300 member schools, and is five spots lower than two weeks ago when Findlay checked in at 11th in the country.
The Learfield Sports Directors' Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. Points are awarded based on each institution's finish in up to 14 sports in Division II – seven men's and seven women's; and 18 sports in Division III-- nine women's and nine men's.
Every year since 1995, the Learfield Sports Directors' Cup has been given awarded to the year's best athletic institution and with 300 schools vying for position, a top finish requires success across all competing teams. Since joining NCAA DII competition in 2000, the highest Findlay has finished was 17th. That ranking came after the 2011-12 season of competition. The only other time the Oilers have been in the top 20 was in 2008-09 when they finished 19th.
The next set of standings will be released on Thursday, April 7 and will include all winter sports.
