Oilers Ranked 18th in Learfield Standings
The University of Findlay athletic department is currently ranked 18th among all NCAA Division II programs in the 2016-17 Learfield Sports Director's Cup standings. The Oilers have recorded 262.50 points on the year during the fall and winter seasons.
The Oilers racked up 50 points during the fall and have scored 237.50 points during the winter, which does not take into consideration the UF men's basketball run to the Sweet 16. Once the men and women's basketball championships have concluded, those points will be distributed.
Grand Valley State University, who has won the cup 11 straight years, is currently in first with 651.50 points.
The Learfield Sports Directors' Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. Points are awarded based on each institution's finish in up to 14 sports in Division II – seven men's and seven women's; and 18 sports in Division III-- nine women's and nine men's.
Every year since 1995, the Learfield Sports Directors' Cup has been given awarded to the year's best athletic institution and with 300 schools vying for position, a top finish requires success across all competing teams. Since joining NCAA DII competition in 2000, the highest Findlay has finished was 17th. That ranking came after the 2011-12 season of competition. The only other time the Oilers have been in the top-20 was in 2008-09 when they finished 19th.
