Findlay Finishes in 26th in Learfield Standings
Cleveland, OH – The University of Findlay athletic department has finished the 2016-17 season in 26th in the Learfield Sports Directors' Cup standings. The Oilers recorded 458.50 points in the standings to finish second among Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) schools and first among schools currently in, or moving to, the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC).
The Oilers recorded 25.00 points in the fall season before picking up 301.5 points in the winter season. That winter point total was sixth in the country. In the final competitive season, the spring, Findlay scored 132.0 points.
Grand Valley State University won the crown for the 12th time, scoring 1,020.00 points to earn the top spot. The GLIAC had seven programs finish inside the top 60.
The Learfield Sports Directors' Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. Points are awarded based on each institution's finish in up to 14 sports in Division II – seven men's and seven women's; and 18 sports in Division III-- nine women's and nine men's.
Every year since 1995, the Learfield Sports Directors' Cup has been given awarded to the year's best athletic institution and with 300 schools vying for position, a top finish requires success across all competing teams. Since joining NCAA DII competition in 2000, the highest Findlay has finished was 17th. That ranking came after the 2011-12 season of competition. The only other time the Oilers have been in the top-20 was in 2008-09 when they finished 19th.
