Oilers Receive D2 ADA Academic Achievement Award | Rank Third in the Country
Findlay, Ohio – The Division 2 Athletics Directors Association (D2 ADA) recently announced the 2017-18 recipients of the D2 ADA Academic Achievement Awards which recognizes the academic accomplishments of student-athletes at the DII level.
Out of 305 NCAA Division II institutions, 162 had athletes earn the D2 ADA award. Of those 162 institutions, the University of Findlay ranked third with 161 total recipients. Only Limestone College (189) and Rollins College (179) tallied higher numbers. Out of schools that compete in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC), only four were represented on the list and Findlay had nearly as many recipients as the other three combined (Kentucky Wesleyan – 48, Lake Erie College – 49, Malone University – 68).
"To not only be ranked atop the G-MAC, but to finish third in the nation in the academic realm is a testament to the hard work that our student-athletes put in on a daily basis", commented Athletics Director, Brandi Laurita. "Their successes on the field and the court naturally grab the headlines, but behind the scenes, our Oilers have proven time and again that academics are of utmost importance. As you look down this list of names, what stands out is that these are not only great athletes and educated students, but they are also outstanding young men and women who represent the University of Findlay in a positive manner."
In total, 10,116 student-athletes were recognized with the Academic Achievement Award. In order to be eligible for the award, the institutions athletic director must be a dues paying member of the D2 ADA and the student-athlete must have a GPA of 3.5 or higher, have attended school for at least four semesters, and have been a member of an intercollegiate team during the year.
