Black Wins Game 1

D.J. Henderson scored the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning to give team Black an 8-7 win in game one of the annual Black and Orange series.

Team Black plated six runs in the bottom of the first inning to take a 6-0 advantage.

With one out, eight straight batters reached base. Freshman Eric Terwilliger got hit-by-a-pitch and Dylan Cintula followed by reaching on an error. Blake Schmenk plated the first run with a ground-rule double to right field to give team black a 1-0 lead.  Jon Schollenbarger's single scored both Schmenk and Cintula to extend the lead to 3-0.  Nathaniel Fitch walked and Clark Henson reached on an error by the third baseman to put runners on second and third. They both would score on a single by D.J. Everrett, who advanced to second on the throw home, to push the lead to 5-0. Matt Lubonovic's single scored Everett then to give the team Black a 6-0 lead.

Team Orange cut into the lead in the third when Dustin Zielaskiewicz singled and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt but Ross Tonyan.  He then stole third and scored on an error by the shortstop.

Team Black answered back as Terwilliger tripled to lead off the second and scored on a wild pitch one out later.

In the fifth, team Orange would get back in the game by scoring four runs thanks to three Black errors and a passed ball.

With one out, back-to-back errors put runners on first and second. Tommy Roush plated one with a double and Victor Migliore knocked in two more with a single to right field.  Migliore would score on a passed ball to narrow the margin to 7-5.

They would get closer in the sixth when Zielaskiewicz  drew a leadoff walk, stole second and advanced to third on a ground out by Tonyan. He then scored on a sacrifice fly by Roush.

In the meantime, Alex Williams was holding team Black at bay. He pitched 5 innings, allowing 1 run on 2 hits. He struck out 2 and walked 1.

In the seventh, Garrett Busch singled, reached second on a passed ball and was moved to third on a sacrifice to third by Matt Vollmar. Busch tied the score on a passed ball.

The comeback was for not as team Black stayed with it and rallied for one in the bottom half of the seventh. Henderson was hit-by-a-pitch and then sacrificed to second by Terwilliger. He would score the game winner on a base hit by Dylan Cintula.

Derek Draper was credited with the win. He went one inning, allowed two hits and one run.

Aaron Geis started the game and went three innings allowing one run on two hits.

Mike Steele pitched 1.1 innings gave up 4 runs, two earned. He gave up three hits and walked two.

Andrew Lee pitched 1.2 innings gave and gave up one run. He walked three.

Drew Hargrove started the game for team Orange. He gave up six runs, three earned, on four hits in one inning of work.

Ethan James was credited with the loss.  He gave up one run on one hit and hit a batter.
