Oilers Defeat #16 Ashland 11-6

The University of Findlay baseball team defeated #16 Ashland University by the score of 11-6 on Wednesday, April 24 in Findlay, Ohio.

The Oilers jumped out to a huge lead early and never looked back, scoring in each of the first five innings, which included a five-run fourth frame.

Blake Schmenk was a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate with two walks. He also broke the single season record for runs record as he crossed the plate three times in the game.  Schmenk now holds the record with 48 runs scored on the season, which eclipses the mark of 46 set by George Rohan during the 2007 campaign.

Reid Rothenbuhler was 2-for-4 with a double while Garrett Busch also chipped in with two hits and a double.

Joe Sickler, Jordan Garcia and Dylan Cintula each had two hits in the game.

One of Sickler's hits was a two-run homer in the fifth.

Preston Zachrich had another strong outing, going five innings without giving up an earned run.  He also recorded seven strikeouts for his fourth victory of the season.

With the victory the Oilers move to 18-19 on the year with an 11-13 record in GLIAC play. They will be back in action on Saturday, April 27 when they travel to Painesville, Ohio to take on Lake Erie College.
