Oilers Split Double-Header
Cary, NC – The University of Findlay baseball team traveled to North Carolina and split the first day, Sunday, March 15. The Oilers dropped the afternoon contest, falling to Dowling College by a 4-3 final and won the night cap over Felician College. The split moves Findlay's record to 3-9 on the season.
Findlay got off to an early lead in the first game after a three-run third inning saw the Oilers with a 3-0 lead but the Golden Lions would ultimately score four unanswered runs to win the game 4-3.
That third inning began with a single from Logan Harrah which was followed by a hit-by-pitch to Peter Yorgen. Chase Goulette followed with an RBI single to left field, plating the Oilers first runs of the game. A passed ball scored Yorgen and Troy Merriman singled, scoring Goulette for the final run of the inning.
Jon Walker took the loss on the mound dropping his record to 0-3. Walker pitched eight innings and allowed four runs on nine hits. He struck out seven.
Merriman collected a pair of hits and had the only RBI for Findlay.

The Oilers offense finally clicked in the second game of the day as Findlay equaled their season-best for runs scored with eight as they won by an 8-1 final.
In the bottom of the fifth, with the score tied 0-0, Findlay was looking for life and got just that with a leadoff walk to Josh Schwerer. Following a sacrifice bunt, Goulette was hit by a pitch and Merriman reached on an error. Then the floodgates opened.
Four straight Oilers had at-bats with the bases loaded; Roman Kuster singled, Jon Shollenberger walked, Kevin Schrock singled, and Miguel Valdez grounded out. Logan Harrah then singled to center, plating two runs and giving Findlay the 6-0 lead.
Findlay added a single run in the sixth, a wild pitch scored Goulette, and single run in the eighth, an RBI single from Goulette scoring Cam Johnson.
That was plenty of offense because the Oilers had a pitcher on the mound throwing a gem.
Pitcher Mason Mayberry was the story in game two as he earned his second win of the season. He took a no-hitter into the eighth inning, the only inning in which Felician scored. A pair of doubles that inning were the only hits allowed by Mayberry. Mason pitched eight innings and allowed two hits and just one run. He struck out 12 and walked just two.
Findlay is back in action tomorrow as they take on Franklin Pierce at 10:15am and Pace University at 2:00pm.
