Oilers Split Doubleheader Against Northwood

Findlay, OH - The University of Findlay baseball team split a doubleheader against Northwood University, which took place on Sunday, March 29 at Fifth Third Field.  The Oilers lost the first game 11-0 and won the second game 9-7.  The doubleheader split gives the Oilers a 6-15 record on the season. 

In the first game, Jon Walker took the loss on the mound allowing seven runs with three of them earned and struck out two hitters in three innings pitched. 

Northwood took a 7-0 lead through four innings and it proved to be too much for the Oilers to handle as the Timberwolves went on to claim an 11-0 victory. 

Jon Shollenberger finished the game with a single and a stolen base while Josh Schwerer and Jordan Garcia each added a single. 

In the second game, Mason Mayberry started the game on the mound and took the no decision for the Oilers and he allowed three runs and struck out 6 hitters in four innings. 

The Oilers were down 5-3 as they head to the bottom of the 7th inning.  Their bats caught on fire and they went on a scoring spree to take a commanding 9-5 lead.  Then, in the top of the 8th inning the Timberwolves scored two runs to narrow the Oilers lead to two runs.  The Timberwolves flirted with a comeback, but the Oilers prevented it from happening with Alex Williams earning the save on the mound to help claim the victory for the Oilers. 

Jordan Garcia had a big game at the plate for the Oilers finishing with three doubles, two runs scored and two runs batted in.  Chase Goulette finished the game with three singles, two runs scored and one run batted in. 

Pete Burkett added two singles and two runs batted in while Peter Yorgen finished the game with a two RBI single and Troy Merriman added a double and one run batted in. 

Josh Schwerer added a double, a single and one run scored while Cameron Johnson finished with a single and one run scored. 

The Oilers return to the field on Monday for another doubleheader against Northwood University.  The first game is slated to begin at 12:00pm.
