Oilers Drop Doubleheader to SVSU

University Center, MI – The University of Findlay baseball team took on the Saginaw Valley State Cardinals for the final two games of their four game series. The games, which took place on Saturday, April 4, moved the Oilers record to 7-21 and 2-10 in conference play.

Game 1: SVSU 9 UF 0

Findlay struggled at the plate in the first game of the day and the Cardinals used a pair of big innings en route to a 9-0 loss for the Oilers.

Logan Harrah, Peter Yorgen, and Troy Merriman each had a hit in the game.

Mason Mayberry took the loss on the mound and dropped his record to 2-3 on the season. He allowed four runs on four hits. He struck out two and walked two.

A.J. Cecil, Eric Schrand, and Anthony Ondrejcak all pitched in relief for the Oilers.

Game 2: SVSU 9 UF 2

SVSU took an early lead in Game 2  The Cardinals scored two runs in the first inning and a single run in the third before Findlay got on the board with an RBI double from Austin Adams in the top of the fourth, making the score 3-1, SVSU with the lead.

Saginaw added on to the lead with three runs in the fifth and a single run in the seventh while Findlay's only other run of the game came in the sixth inning when Chase Goulette scored on a fielder's choice from Cameron Johnson.

The Cardinals added some insurance runs in the bottom of the eighth as they scored another pair of runs and sending the score to its final, 9-2.

Adams picked up two hits, including a double, and an RBI while Goulette had a hit and an RBI.

Austin Rodesky took the loss on the mound as he pitched four innings and allowed five runs on six hits. He struck out four and walked three.

Findlay ended the game with two runs on six hits and made two errors while SVSU had nine runs on 11 hits and made one error.

The Oilers will be back in action this coming Wednesday, April 8, for a GLIAC doubleheader vs. the Chargers of Hillsdale. The first game will begin at 2:00pm.
