Williams Signs Frontier League Contract

Findlay, OH – 2015 University of Findlay graduate Alex Williams has been signed to play professional baseball in the Frontier League. He will be a member of the Washington Wild Things when they begin play on Friday, May 13.

Williams is currently in California where he has been playing in the California Winter League, a developmental league that allows professional teams to evaluate potential players.

"After college, I wasn't drafted. But Coach 'P' (Parrill) and Coach 'Mak' (Makowski) believed in me and kept working hard to get me to the next level", said Williams. "I went to California with a Frontier League contract on my mind."

It didn't take long as the Washington Wild Things liked what they saw and offered Williams a contract immediately following his first outing. Williams gives Findlay head coach Steve Parrill high praise for the work he did to prepare Alex for baseball after college and stressed hard work as the key to success.

"I wasn't a top guy out of high school. Once Coach 'P' came in, he transformed me and helped me get my game to another level. I realize that this isn't the end goal. My goal is to play affiliated ball and I know that anything can happen if you believe in yourself, have others that believe in you, and work hard."

For now, Williams remains in California, but will be heading east in the coming months.

"I've lived in Ohio my whole life and now I'm seeing mountains and desert for the first time. I'm just enjoying wearing shorts and a tshirt", said Williams.

Williams, a Perrysburg, Ohio native, was an all-American in the 2014 season for the Oilers and earned all-Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference recognition following his 2014 and 2015 seasons. He finished his time in the Orange and Black with a 2.71 ERA with 117 strikeouts in 116.1 innings pitched.

At The University of Findlay, Williams is in the record book for the following:

  • Pitching appearances in a season: 22 (2015)
  • Career games pitched: 75
  • 2nd in career saves: 19
