Mark Delas Delivers No-No in First Career Start
Auburndale, FL – In the final double-header of the spring trip, the University of Findlay baseball team split their double-header vs. Gannon University, who is now 8-3. After the Thursday, March 3 games, the Oilers now sport a 3-4 record with one game to play before returning home.

Findlay had one big inning in game one as they were able to answer a two-run bottom of the first by the Gannon Golden Knights with a four-run second inning.
In that inning, junior Logan Harrah, sophomore Josh Schwerer, freshman Derrick Herd, junior Peter Yorgen, and junior Austin Adams all had singles and, once the dust settled, the Oilers had plated four runs on the five hits. Schwerer, Herd, Yorgen, and Adams each had RBI's as all of the runs scored were with two outs. The big inning forced the Golden Knights starter out of the game.
Gannon responded with five runs in the bottom of the second, chasing Oilers' starter, sophomore Josh Robinson from the mound.
Five more runs in the fifth inning put Gannon up 12-4 heading into the final inning.
Adams singled to lead off the inning and later scored on a single from senior Jordan Garcia for the Oilers' final run of the game.
Robinson took the loss on the hill as he pitched two innings and allowed seven runs on six hits. He struck out two and walked one.
Gannon was 2-for-2 with the bases loaded, both hits being bases clearing extra base hits.
Herd, making his first start at short stop, was 3-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI.
Schwerer and Adams each had two hits for the Oilers, who finished with 12 hits as a team.

After both teams combined for 24 hits in the first game, and Gannon entered with a .368 team batting average, the stage was set for another offensive shootout in the nightcap of the double-header. That, however, was not the case.
The story of the game was the start by pitcher, freshman Mark Delas. Delas, making his first college start, pitched a complete game shutout against one of the best offensive teams, to date, in the region. Not only did Delas achieve a shutout, but he did so without allowing a hit by the Golden Knights.
The no-hitter by Delas is the first for the Oilers since the 1996 season when Jack Zaborowski held the Tiffin Dragons hitless.
Findlay was able to score single runs in the bottom of the second and third innings.
In the second, Adams led off with a single and was followed by a single from sophomore Pete Burkett. Senior Miguel Valdez grounded into a double-play but did score Adams from third base, giving the Oilers the lead.
Schwerer hit a one-out double in the third and later scored on a single by Yorgen giving Findlay a 2-0 lead.
That lead was all the Oilers would need as Delas was dealing on the mound.
The only base runners to reach for Gannon came in the third inning on an error and a fourth inning walk.
Delas made his case for a spot in the regular starting rotation as he pitched seven innings, walked one, and struck out six hitters. He retired the first seven hitters he faced and also retired the final ten batters in the game as he shut down a lineup that had, to this point, averaged 9.7 earned runs per game.
