Delas Named National Pitcher of the Week

NCBWA Release

Findlay, OH - University of Findlay pitcher Mark Delas has been named as the National Collegiate Baseball Writer's Association (NCBWA) Division II National Pitcher of the Week for his performance last Thursday, March 3.

On that day, a game against Gannon University, the Oilers' freshman was set to make his first career start and he delivered a performance that few could have predicted. The Perrysburg, Ohio native tossed a complete game no-hitter, shutting out the Golden Knights who entered the game as one of the nation's best offenses with a team batting average of .368, good for ninth in the country at the time. Delas only walked one and struck out six en route to his first career victory. To reach the complete game, Delas only needed 86 pitches and faced the minimum, 21 batters.

The no-hitter was the first for Findlay since Brandon Canterbury no-hit Urbana on April 26, 1997.

The NCBWA National Pitcher of the Week award is the first awarded to an Oilers' pitcher.
