Mayberry Earns National Pitcher of the Week

NCBWA Release

Findlay, OH – Senior Mason Mayberry has been named as the National Collegiate Baseball Writer's Association (NCBWA) Pitcher of the Week following two great starts last week..

Mayberry had the best week of his career this past week, turning in a couple of double-digit strikeout games including his first collegiate no-hitter. Mayberry's ERA dropped over three points to a team-leading 1.67.

First, coming off 18 days since his previous start, Mayberry turned in a no-hitter on Tuesday, April 12 to give the Oilers a win over Saginaw Valley State University. In that game, Mason struck out 12, tying a career-high, and allowed just four base runners, two walks and two errors. It was the second no-hitter by an Oilers' pitcher this season after not recording a no-no in any of the previous 19 seasons.

His next start would come on five-days rest and again, he delivered. Mayberry took a no-decision on the mound despite pitching seven innings, allowing no earned runs, just four hits, and striking out 10 batters.

After never winning the award in the history of the program, this is now the second time this season an Oilers' pitcher has brought home the honor. The other winner was Mark Delas who was awarded the national award after throwing a no-hitter in his first career start, a game vs. Gannon on March 3 of this year.
