Orange Squad Wins Game 1

Findlay, OH - Game 1 of the annual Orange and Black Series held at the Cube ended with a 2-1 victory for the Orange team.

Sophomore Alex Harter (Black) faced off against sophomore Mark Delas (Orange).  After 3 innings the score was 0-0 with sophomore Derrick Herd having the only hit.

The first two runs came in the top of the fourth inning, which started with a first pitch fastball that Jordan Williams drilled down the line for a lead off double.  Josh Schwerer followed with a walk and after a passed ball that advanced runners to second and third, senior Peter Yorgen hit a sac fly to right center field which scored the first run of the game. Josh Schwerer advanced to third on the tag. Junior Christion Smith hit another deep fly ball which scored Schwerer, the second run of the game. 

In the bottom half of the inning for the black teamLogan Harrah walked with one out and Sam Shelt Palm got hit by a pitch to put runners on first and second. Christion Smith threw out Logan Harrah at third base on a double steal attempt. Sophomore Andrew Tincher hit a RBI single to make the score 2-1 heading into the top of the fifth. Alex Harter closed out the top while Junior Eric Schrand closed the bottom half of the inning

Freshman Patrick Theiss pitched two scoreless innings for the black team and Josh Robinson help Eric Schrand combine for a scoreless sixth inning for the orange team. 

Senior Austin Rodesky came in to close the bottom of the seventh. Sophomore Derrick Herd reached on an error to lead it off.  Freshman Casey Gould bunted Derrick to second base leaving Brian Cappiello up with one out with a runner in scoring position.  Austin Rodesky struck out the next two batters to close the game and clinch game 1 of the series.  

Game 2 and potentially game 3 will be held tomorrow at the cube starting at 3:45pm.
