Oilers End Florida Trip With Season's First Loss
Winter Haven, FL – The University of Findlay baseball team dropped their first game of the season on their final day in the Sunshine State. The Oilers fell by a score of 4-0 on Friday, March 10 at the hands of the St. Joseph's (Ind.) Pumas. With the loss, the Orange and Black have a record of 9-1 as they head back to Ohio while the Pumas are now 10-2. On the trip, the Oilers played eight games and won seven.
Findlay had back-to-back singles in the top of the first inning but could not push a run across as a strikeout, caught stealing, and ground out would end the early threat.
St. Joseph's got the scoring started in the second inning when they scored a pair of runs on a hit batter, a couple walks, and a base hit.
Findlay, which had at least one hit in every inning of the game, had multiple scoring chances in the game, perhaps the best of which came in the top of the seventh inning when three straight singles loaded the bases with one out. However, a strikeout and ground out ended the inning.
Austin Rodesky took the loss on the hill and is now 2-1 on the season. He pitched three innings and allowed two runs on one hit. He walked four and struck out three.
The Oilers bullpen came in and pitched five innings and struck out 11 batters with just one walk.
Logan Harrah led the team on offense with a three-for-four performance at the dish while Christion Smith and Cameron Johnson each had a pair of singles.
Findlay finished with no runs, 12 hits, and no errors while the Pumas had four runs on six hits. They made one error.
The Oilers will be back on the field on Tuesday, March 14 when they travel to Bowling Green to take on the Falcons of Bowling Green State University.
