Oilers Drop Two at ODU

Columbus, OH – The University of Findlay baseball team dropped their series-opening double-header with Ohio Dominican University on Saturday, April 22. The two losses continue an 11-game skid for the Oilers who fall below the .500 mark for the first time this season at 17-18 overall. They are 7-15 in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play.

Game 1 | L (3-0) (Box Score)

Findlay threatened to score in the first inning when freshman Casey Gould reached third base with one out in the opening frame. However, a pair of strikeouts ended the threat, the best scoring opportunity of the game for the Oilers.

The Panthers scored single runs in the second, fifth, and sixth innings and got a great pitching performance from Brad Wilson en route to a 3-0 victory.

Junior Austin Rodesky took the loss on the hill and falls to 2-5 on the year. He tossed six innings and allowed three earned runs on eight hits. He walked two and struck out four in the complete game.

Sophomore Derrick Herd, who would finish the day with five hits, went 2-for-3 in the first contest. Casey Gould, junior Cameron Johnson, and junior Troy Merriman had the other of the Oilers' five hits.

Game 2 | L (8-7) (Box Score)

The Oilers did not miss their early scoring chance in the second game. After leading off with a single, Casey Gould reached third with two outs and scored on a single by freshman Trevor Anderson. A passed ball allowed a second run to score, giving Findlay a 2-0 lead.

Ohio Dominican answered with a solo homerun in the first to cut the lead to 2-1.

Findlay scored a single run in the third, but the Panthers picked up one run in each of the third, fourth, fifth, and sixth innings to take a 5-3 lead heading into the seventh.

Junior Josh Schwerer led the inning off with an infield single and Gould reached on an error. After a groundout that scored a run, Derrick Herd singled in another run to give the Oilers the lead at 6-5. A double from senior Peter Yorgen would extend the lead to 7-5.

The Panthers answered, however, with a single run in the seventh and two runs in the eighth to take an 8-7 lead.

Derrick Herd led off the ninth with a double, but was left stranded.

Sophomore Mark Delas got the start and threw four innings, allowing four runs on eight hits. He walked three, struck out six, and allowed three home runs.

Senior AJ Cecil took the loss, pitching two-thirds of an inning and allowing a run on one hit.

The series will conclude tomorrow, Sunday, April 23.
