Herd Selected to Valley League All-Star Team

Findlay, OH - University of Findlay baseball player Derrick Herd has been selected to participate in the Valley Baseball League All-Star Game which will take place tomorrow, July 9, in Harrisonburg, Virginia at James Madison University. 

Herd is a member of the Woodstock River Bandits of the Valley Baseball League, a summer collegiate league sanctioned by Major League Baseball. It is one of twelve leagues in the National Alliance of College Summer Baseball that most notably includes the Cape Cod League, California League, and locally, the Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League. The VBL is filled with players from NCAA Division I institutions as well as top talent from Division II and III and has boasted notable alumni such as Daniel Murphy, Brett Gardner, Jason Kipnis, Mo Vaughn, and many more.

Herd, who is heading into his junior year at Findlay, enters the All-Star break as one of the league's best hitters. His current batting average of .359 ranks ninth in the league. He has at least one hit in 15 of the 20 games in which he has played including a summer-best four hit, two double performance on June 13.
