Findlay Splits at Tiffin Behind Foulks' Homeruns

Tiffin, Ohio – The University of Findlay baseball team traveled down 224 to take on the Tiffin University Dragons in a midweek Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) double header on Wednesday, March 27. The Oilers took the first game but dropped the nightcap to take their record to 9-10 overall with a 4-6 mark in conference play. Tiffin is now 6-20 and have a 3-7 record in the G-MAC.

Game 1 Box Score (W 4-3)

In the first contest of the day, Tiffin took control early with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first after Findlay went 1-2-3 in the top half of the inning.

Trailing 2-0, Findlay answered in the second with a single run and then scored two more runs in the third to take a 3-2 lead.

The Dragons tied the game in the bottom of the fifth but in the top of the ninth inning freshman Alex Foulks blasted a ball over the fence in left field to put the Oilers ahead for good.

Findlay finished the game with four runs in ten hits and did not make an error while the Dragons scored three runs on five hits and made one error.

Foulks ended the game with a pair of hits, a run scored, and an RBI while junior Casey Gould also had two hits and added an RBI.

Senior Nic Varda was 1-for-4 with a double, a run scored, and an RBI.

Junior Tyler Rendlesham started on the mound for Findlay and took a no-decision after throwing 6.1 innings and allowing just three runs, two of which were earned. He scattered for hits and six walks while striking out five.

Freshman Trey Bame earned his first career victory after throwing 2.2 innings and giving up just one hit. He struck out two.

Game 2 Box Score (L 6-5)

After a scoreless first inning, the Oilers put up a single run in the second inning when junior Jordan Williams singled through the right side to score senior Trevor Anderson who singled with one out.

That lead did not last long as Tiffin would come back with three runs of their own in the bottom of the second inning to take the lead.

In the third inning, senior Derrick Herd reached on an error to start the inning and was followed by a single from junior Sam Shelt Palm. After a strikeout, sophomore Ryan Johnson singled to right to score Herd. Later in the inning, Trevor Anderson singled up the middle to score Shelt Palm and tie the game.

Adding to what has been a great start to his career, Alex Foulks blasted another home run in the top of the fourth to give Findlay the lead. It was the third home run in four games for the Oilers' newcomer.

Tiffin tied the game in the bottom of the inning but Findlay regained the lead in the fifth when Casey Gould came around to score on a wild pitch.

The Dragons scored a pair of unanswered runs in the fifth to seal the victory.

Findlay scored five runs on nine hits, eight of which were singles, and made one error while the Dragons scored six runs on ten hits and made two errors.

Sam Shelt Palm and Trevor Anderson each had two hits in the game while Casey Gould had one hit and scored two runs.

The Oilers will travel to Tennessee to begin a three-game series with Lincoln Memorial on Friday and Saturday, March 29-30.
