Fields Invited To Play In Cactus Bowl

Senior defensive back Anthony Fields of The University of Findlay football has been invited to take part in the 9th annual Cactus Bowl in Kingsville, Texas on January 8, 2010. The invitation is the first for an Oilers football player since joining the NCAA Division II ranks.

Fields, a 5'10, 195-pound corner from Bishop Luers High School in Fort Wayne, Indiana, finished his senior season with 73 total tackles and three interceptions. A two-time, first team all-conference selection, Fields finished third in the GLIAC with 14 passes defended and led his squad to the 25th best pass defense in the country by allowing only 166.7 yards per contest through the air.

The Cactus Bowl, which used to be held in Fargo, North Dakota as the Snow Bowl, is an annual game to showcase the top players in NCAA Division II football. The first seven years of the Snow Bowl produced over 100 players signed by the NFL and in the inaugural Cactus Bowl game alone, 25 players signed NFL contracts, inspiring the game slogan "the best players you've never seen."

Played in an East/West format, the teams are comprised entirely of the 'best of the best' NCAA Division II college seniors. The Cactus Bowl Committee, comprised completely of volunteers, is responsible for all aspects of organization for the contest and net profits from the Cactus Bowl are donated to Shriners Hospitals for Children throughout the United States, Mexico and Canada.

The Al Amin Temple of Corpus Christi will be involved in the Cactus Bowl pre-game preparation and game-day operations.

The game will feature 80 Division II players from all over America.
