#8 Lakers Defeat #18 Oilers 38-13

The University of Findlay football team, ranked 18th in the nation, was defeated 38-13 by 8th ranked Grand Valley State University on Saturday, October 17 in Allendale, Michigan. The loss gives the Oilers a 6-2 record on the season with a 5-2 mark in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC).

The Lakers controlled the game from the beginning, jumping out to a 24-7 lead at the break and cruised through the second half for their seventh win of the season.

As a team the Oilers had trouble moving the ball and converted on only 1-of-8 third down plays. They also gave up 480 total yards to the Lakers who were determined to not be defeated two games in a row.

The Lakers also controlled the ball for 38:19 as the Oilers offense managed only 250 yard of total offense.

Senior quarterback Andrew Beam completed 17-of-23 passes for 187 yards to go along with a touchdown and an interception.

Senior wide receiver Mike Chambers caught eight passes for 107 yards and a score giving him 853 receiving yards on the season, only 166 yards shy of breaking the school record of 1,018 receiving yards in a season set by Derek Hutchinson in 1986.

Junior wide receiver Jonathan Mora added five receptions for 50 yards while freshman running back Monterae Williams had six carries for 27 yards.

Defensively, senior linebacker Joe Knopick had 14 tackles while junior defensive back Bryon Rizzi and senior defensive back Anthony Fields added nine and eight tackles respectively.

The Oilers will be back in action again on Saturday, October 24 when they host Northern Michigan University at 12:00 p.m.
