Wauford Released As Head Coach

On Monday, November 15, Steven Rackley, Director of Athletics at The University of Findlay, released head football coach Jon Wauford. Wauford held the head coaching title for four years and had an overall record of 15-29 during his tenure with the Oilers.

"We have decided to go in a different direction with our football program and a national search for our new head coach will begin immediately," said Rackley.

Wauford led the Oilers to a 5-6 (2007) and 2-9 (2008) record in his first two seasons before guiding Findlay to a 7-4 record during the 2009 campaign. This year, his team finished with a 1-10 mark.

Prior to being named the head coach at Findlay, Wauford served as the assistant head coach and defensive coordinator for the Oilers during the 2006 season under Dan Simrell. He also began his coaching career at UF, serving as the outside linebackers coach and special teams coordinator from 1995-98. While at Findlay, he helped guide the Oilers to the NAIA Division II national championship in 1995 and the NAIA national title in 1997.

In 1999, Wauford headed to Miami University where he served as the defensive line coach and special teams coordinator before being promoted to defensive coordinator at the start of the 2000 season. He helped guide the Red Hawks to a four-year record of 27-19, including a Mid-American Conference mark of 22-10 and two second place finishes in the East Division.

He also served as the defensive line coach and defensive run-game coordinator during the 2004 and 2005 seasons at Kent State University before returning home to Findlay.
