Oilers Have Talented Defensive Backs Returning

Last season, the Oilers relied on young players to fill defensive back spots. That experience earned in the tough Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) will help this season as the group has a number of talented and athletic players who have shown they have the ability to make an impact as the Oilers last line of defense.

Senior Donte Johnson has the most experience of the group, having played in 24 games during his tenure in the program. He has also made 18 starts with a total of 83 tackles and four interceptions.

Junior Bryan Womack and sophomores Jamon McClain and Kalon Willis have also contributed in the past and will be looking to make an even bigger impact in 2011.

Womack made five starts last season and recorded 32 tackles and two interceptions. McClain registered 52 tackles and nine starts as a freshman while Willis started all 11 games, making 72 tackles.

The Oilers also have some good depth to blend in with their experienced players as junior Demetrius Trapps and sophomore Brian Swartz were both moved over from the offensive side of the ball while sophomore Brian Klozik, red-shirt freshman Brice Womack and freshman Jesse Hernandez are all looking to make their presence felt.

"This group of defensive backs is committed towards bringing maximum effort on each play," said defensive backs coach Domenick Razzano. "They are willing to compete and out-work their opponents."
