Team Black Wins 19-10 in Spring Game

Team Black came away with a 19-10 win over the White squad as the Oilers completed their 2012 Spring Football Game on Saturday, April 21 at Donnell Stadium.

Red-shirt freshman quarterback Jesse Slone got things going with a 12-yard touchdown pass to junior wide receiver Seth White with 9:54 to play in the second quarter.  The point after attempt was missed however as the Black team took a 6-0 lead.

At the five minute mark of the second period, red-shirt sophomore kicker Spencer Kerr connected on a 37-yard field goal to extend the lead to 9-0.

With 58 seconds remaining in the half, the White team cut the lead to 9-7 when junior tight end Jaryd Brown caught a 28-yard touchdown pass from red-shirt sophomore quarterback Mitchell Faine.

The momentum of the game appeared to be going in the favor of the White squad, but the Black team exploded for 70 yards on four plays to score another touchdown before the first half ended.

Slone again hit White for the score, this time from 21-yards away.

The White team would tack on a field goal in the third quarter as freshman kicker Alex Moser booted on through the uprights from 35-yards away.

The Black team would then complete the scoring in the fourth quarter with a 29-yard field goal from sophomore kicker Marc Hunka.

Slone finished the game by completing 28-of-42 passes for 288 yards.  He threw two touchdown passes and had one intercepted.

White caught 11 passes for 131 yards and two touchdowns while sophomore wide receiver Lloyd Henry had six grabs for 83 yards.

Faine led the White team by completing 22-of-31 passes for 199 yards.  He threw one touchdown passes and had one interception in the game.

Sophomore wide receiver Harold Jones-Quartey had six receptions for 47 yards while junior running back Zach Kinninger rushed seven times for 32 yards and also caught six passes for 46 yards in the loss.

Brown hauled in four receptions for 56 yards and a score as well.

Defensively, senior linebacker Brandon Butler led the Black team with 12 tackles.  He also added a sack and two tackles for a loss.

Sophomore defensive lineman Kevin Brewton recorded a pair of sacks while senior defensive back Bryan Womack and red-shirt sophomore defensive back Brice Womack each recorded an interception.

Sophomore defensive back Feraris Golden and junior linebacker Kenny Klatt led the White team with seven tackles apiece.

Senior defensive lineman Josh Kloepfer added 3.5 tackles for a loss and 1.5 sacks as well.

Before the Spring Game took place, the Oilers hosted their second annual Alumni Flag Football Game.  The White team won by a score of 13-12 as former kicker Cameron Stevens was named the MVP after catching a 30-yard touchdown pass to go along with four pass breakups.
