6 Oilers Earn 1st Team All-GLIAC Honors

Complete All-GLIAC Teams

The University of Findlay football had six players earn first team all-Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) as the league office unveiled their annual awards on Nov. 20.  The six first team all-conference picks are the most an Oilers team has had since entering the league.

Sophomore running back Daiquone Ford, senior tight end Jaryd Brown, junior wide receiver Lloyd Henry, junior center Damon Howe, junior defensive end Kevin Brewton and junior safety Harold Jones-Quartey all earned a spot on the first team by helping the Oilers achieve an 8-3 record during the 2013 campaign.

Ford played ten games for the Oilers before a knee injury cut his season short.  Despite missing a game, the Myrtle Beach, S.C. native posted the second highest rushing total in school history with 1,789 yards.  He also tied a school record with 24 rushing touchdowns and his 178.9 rushing yards per game ranks third nationally.

The speedster put up nine 100-yard rushing games during the season, which included a 44-carry 317-yard performance against Lake Erie.  Both his carry and yard total established new single-game school records at Findlay.

Brown finished second on the squad with 38 receptions.  He caught four touchdown passes and racked up 394 receiving yards.

The Germantown, Ohio native ended his career with 136 receptions, tied for the fourth best mark in school history.

Henry led the team with 71 receptions for 951 yards and seven touchdowns.  His catch total is the second highest mark in school history while his yard total ranks fourth all-time.

The Garfield Hts., Ohio native averaged 86.5 receiving yards per game and he recorded four 100-yard receiving efforts during the 2013 season.

Howe started all 11 games for the Oilers at center.  His efforts helped the Oilers average 259.5 rushing yards per game during the 2013 campaign.

Brewton led the league with 13.5 tackles for a loss and 11 sacks.  The Akron, Ohio native also contributed 38 tackles and two blocked kicks.

Jones-Quartey led the team with 92 tackles and also contributed 4.5 tackles for a loss, three interceptions and 12 pass breakups.   

In addition, senior wide receiver Seth White, senior offensive lineman Justin Music and senior linebacker Trevor Smith earned second team all-conference accolades.

White did a little of everything for the Oilers during his senior season.  The Bexley, Ohio native finished the year with 37 catches for 550 yards and five touchdowns and also made five field goals.  He led the team with 32 extra point makes and also averaged 38.1 yards per punt.

The senior Swiss Army Knife ends his career with 149 receptions, the best total in school history.

Music started all 11 games for the Oilers at left guard.  He helped pave the way for the Oilers to average 37.9 points per game and 504.5 yards of total offense per contest.

Smith finished second on the team with 77 tackles.  He also tallied four sacks and forced a fumble on the year.

Junior quarterback Verlon Reed, sophomore offensive lineman Chris Reaper, freshman defensive back Tory Clark, junior defensive back Feraris Golden and senior linebackers Kenny Klatt and Zach Kinninger were each tabbed honorable mention all-conference for their efforts as well.

Reed started seven games at quarterback for the Oilers before a thumb injury forced him to move to receiver.

The Columbus, Ohio native ended the year by completing 67.4 percent of his passing attempts for 1,791 yards and 11 touchdowns.  He also added 389 rushing yards and caught five passes for 152 yards.  He scored two rushing touchdowns and also had two receiving scores on the year.

Reaper started all 11 games for Findlay at his left tackle position and helped the Oilers only allow nine sacks on the season.

Clark appeared in all 11 games and made two starts at safety while doubling as the Oilers lead returner on kickoffs.  He came away with 48 tackles and two interceptions while also averaging 27.4 yards per kick return.

Golden played in nine games for the Oilers at corner, starting seven contests.  He racked up 54 tackles, which included 46 solo stops, and made three interceptions.

Klatt recorded 63 total tackles, making 4.5 stops for a loss, while Kinninger put up 51 tackles and returned a fumble for a touchdown on the year.
