Brewton, Jones-Quartey, Ford Earn All-American Honors

2014 D2Football.com Preseason All-Americans

Three members of the Oilers football team were tabbed preseason NCAA Division II All-Americans by D2football.com on Aug. 26. Seniors Kevin Brewton and Harold Jones-Quartey joined junior Daiquone Ford on the second team.

Brewton, a defensive end from Akron, Ohio, earned all-region and all-conference honors last year. He has also accumulated several preseason All-American honors this season after leading the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) in sacks last year with 11. He also registered 13.5 tackles for a loss to go along with 38 tackles in 2013.

Jones-Quartey, a safety from Columbus, Ohio, was a first team all-conference performer for the Oilers last season. He has also been racking up numerous preseason All-American honors this year after finishing the 2013 campaign with a team-high 92 tackles. He also picked off three passes and led the team with 12 pass breakups.

Ford, a running back from Myrtle Beach, S.C., was an all-conference, all-region and All-American performer for the Oilers in 2013.  Despite missing a game, the Myrtle Beach, S.C. native posted the second highest rushing total in school history with 1,789 yards.  He also tied a school record with 24 rushing touchdowns and his 178.9 rushing yards per game ranks third nationally.

The speedster put up nine 100-yard rushing games during the season, which included a 44-carry 317-yard performance against Lake Erie.  Both his carry and yard total established new single-game school records at Findlay.

The Oilers begin their season on Sep. 6 at home against Hillsdale. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. in Donnell Stadium.
