Oilers to Host Warriors for Senior Day

The Oilers football team will be at home for the final time this year when they take on Wayne State University on Nov. 1. The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) contest is scheduled for a noon kickoff.

Coach Keys Weekly

Don't forget to tune into 88.3 FM "WLFC" for Coach Keys Weekly.  The radio show will be broadcast live from Fricker's every Monday evening during the season.  The show is aired live from 6-7 p.m. on Monday evenings.  Fans are encouraged to attend the show so they can listen live over the sound system and enjoy the great food Fricker's has to offer.

The Series

The Oilers currently lead the Warriors 11-8 in the all-time series dating back to the 1923 campaign when then Detroit City defeated Findlay 28-0.

The two programs last met during the 2011 campaign when Findlay came away with a 43-42 win in overtime against the 22nd-ranked Warriors.  The Warriors later would march through the NCAA DII playoffs that season, reaching the national championship game.

The Warriors scored first in the overtime period before the Oilers came with a touchdown and two-point conversion to win the game.  Clay Belton finished the game by completing 27-of-40 passing attempts for 280 yards and three touchdowns.

Seth White hauled in 11 receptions for 111 yards and a two scores while Jaryd Brown recorded nine catches for 145 yards and a score.

Head Coach Rob Keys

Head coach Rob Keys is currently in his fourth season at the helm of the Oilers football program. During his tenure with the team, Keys has guided the Oilers to a 25-15 overall record. He has also posted a 22-13 record in conference play.

The Oilers

The Oilers lost their second straight game last week by a score of 42-36 against Grand Valley State in Donnell Stadium.

Verlon Reed finished the game by completing 28-of-42 passing attempts for 299 yards and two touchdowns. He also rushed for 86 yards on 13 carries.

Lloyd Henry caught ten balls for 130 yards and a score en route to setting the school record for career catches. Henry has now made 157 career catches and came into the game needing only three receptions to eclipse the record of 149, which was set by Seth White (2010-13).

Nathan Morris racked up 114 yards in kick returns and his 100-yard kick return for a score broke the school record of 93 yards, which was set by the Oilers Adam Burdette against Wayne State in the 2000 campaign.

Eric Palmore-Lett led the Oilers defense with ten tackles while Harold Jones-Quartey had eight stops.

2014 Roster

The Warriors

The Warriors are 4-4 on the season with a 3-4 record in conference play. They are coming off of a 52-17 win over Walsh last weekend.

Desmond Martin leads the offense with 1,026 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns while Carl Roscoe has thrown for 1,423 yards and ten scores.

Michael Johnson has caught 38 balls for 655 yards and eight touchdowns as well.

Morris Earns Honor

Senior defensive back Nathan Morris was named the GLIAC Special Teams Player of the Week for his performance in the Oilers 42-36 loss against Grand Valley State on Oct. 25.

Morris broke a school record by returning a kickoff 100 yards for a score midway through the second quarter.  His 100-yard kick return broke the school record of 93 yards, which was set by Adam Burdette against Wayne State during the 2000 campaign.

The Warrensville Hts., Ohio native has returned two kicks for touchdowns during his career. He returned a kick 91 yards for a touchdown against Urbana University on Sep. 5, 2013.

A New All-Time Leader

Senior wide receiver Lloyd Henry became the Oilers all-time leader in career receptions against Grand Valley State on Oct. 25. Henry now has 157 career receptions, the best in school history.

Henry has also accumulated 2,137 career receiving yards, a total that ranks second all-time at Findlay.  Scott McLaughlin (1991-94) is currently the all-time leader in receiving yards at Findlay with 2,403.

Finding the End Zone

Senior quarterback Verlon Reed has accounted for 152 points so far this year, the second best total in the GLIAC and the 12th best mark in the nation.  Reed has thrown for 18 touchdowns and also rushed for seven as well.  The signal caller also has a two-point conversion this year too.

Reed accumulated a career-high six total touchdowns in the Oilers 46-38 win over Hillsdale on Sep. 6 to open the season.

Sticky Hands

Senior wide receiver Lloyd Henry leads the GLIAC with 61 receptions this season, which is the 17th best total in the nation. He is also ranked first in the conference and 14th in the nation in receiving yards with 832 and third in the league in receiving touchdowns with seven.

Henry is on pace to set season records in catches and yards this season. The school record for receptions in a season is 74, which was set by Mike Chambers during the 2008 campaign. The school record for receiving yards in a season is 1,027, which was also set by Chambers during the 2009 season.

Henry caught a season-high and school record 15 balls for 202 yards in the Oilers 47-7 win over Walsh on Oct. 11.

On His Way

Senior quarterback Verlon Reed is on his way to establishing several school records this season.  The signal caller has thrown for 2,251 yards on the strength of completing 170-of-281 passing attempts.  The school record for passing yards in a season is 2,329, which was set by Clay Belton in 2012. Belton also holds the school records for pass completions in a season (181) and pass attempts in a season (315), which were set during the 2012 and 2011 campaigns, respectively.

Reed also has a chance to establish a new career passing record as he has thrown for 4,042 yards during his tenure with the team, the fifth best total in school history. Bo Hurley (1994-97) holds the career mark of 4,835 passing yards.

Aerial Attack

The Oilers have thrown for 2,360 yards this season at an average of 295.0 yards per contest, which is the top mark in the GLIAC.  The team is approaching a school record for most passing yards in a season, which was set last year. The 2013 edition of the Oilers established a school record of 2,696 passing yards.
