Oilers Season Ends with Loss at NMU
The University of Findlay football team ended their season with a 66-38 loss to Northern Michigan University on Nov. 15 in Marquette, Mich. The Oilers conclude the 2014 campaign with a 5-6 overall record, which includes a 4-6 mark in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play.
The Oilers fell behind by a score of 35-6 midway through the second quarter and could never recover as the Wildcats captured their third win on the season.
Senior quarterback Verlon Reed paced the offense with 222 passing yards and three touchdowns. He also rushed for 69 yards on 12 carries.
Reed ends his career with a number of school records. The signal caller set records for most completions in a season (210), most attempts in a season (357), most passing yards in a season (2,712) and most offensive yards (3,346). His 4,503 career passing yards ranks second all-time at UF.
Senior wide receiver Lloyd Henry racked up ten catches for 123 yards while junior wide receiver Tim Szabo caught five balls for 53 yards and a score.
Henry ends his career as the all-time leading receiver in school history. He holds school records for career receptions (177), career receiving yards (2,410), most receptions in a season (81) and most receiving yards in a season (1,105).
Freshman running back Chauncey Bridges recorded 63 yards on the ground while junior running back Daiquone Ford and sophomore running back Anthony Linnear rushed for 54 and 48 yards, respectively.
Sophomore kicker Tyler Bugeja connected on three fields in the game and ends the season with 14. His 14 makes gives him a share of the school record for most fields goals in a season. Former standout Cameron Stevens booted 14 during the 2009 season for the Oilers as well.
Senior safety Harold Jones-Quartey led the defense with eight tackles and senior linebacker Zach Matracia added seven stops.
