Black Wins 17-10 Over Orange in Spring Game

The University of Findlay football program held their annual Orange and Black Spring Game on April 18 at Donnell Stadium. The Black team scored the victory, defeating the Orange by a score of 17-10.

The Orange team got on the board early in the first quarter when Chauncey Bridges powered his way into the end zone from one yard away to make the score 7-0. The Black team then got on the board minutes later with a safety, which was caused by a bad snap on a punt try.

In the second quarter, Jared Evers caught a 21-yard touchdown pass Rhys Gervais to give the Black team a 9-7 lead. The Orange squad would then add a 22-yard field goal by Jacob Allton with only seconds remaining in the quarter to give them a 10-9 lead at the break.

After a scoreless third quarter, Michael Campbell scored the final points of the game on a five-yard touchdown scamper for the Black. Jason Moore then caught a two-point conversion from Gervais to give the Black a 17-10 lead.

Campbell led the ground game for the Black team with 37 yards on nine carries while Darnell Fields had four carries for 31 yards. Daiquone Ford added 22 yards on the ground as well.

Bridges led the Orange rushing attack with 34 yards on 15 carries.

Gervais completed 9-of-15 pass attempts for the Black, registering 109 yards and a touchdown. Josh Pennington meanwhile completed 21-of-41 attempts for the Orange, throwing for 220 yards in the game.

Jason Moore had four catches for 38 yards for the Black while Tim Szabo made five catches for 112 yards for the Orange.

Myles Alexander racked up a game-high nine tackles for the Black while DaShawn Scott had six stops for the Orange, which included a sack. Tory Clark picked off a pass for the Orange and also made five tackles while Johnny Hopkins and Chris Obenour were credited with sacks for the Orange as well.

Daniel Gusching made six tackles for the Black while Mickey McGuire and Austin Reichert had sacks for the Black team in the win.

In the Oilers annual alumni flag football game, the Black defeated the Orange by a score of 30-19. Jamon McClain captured MVP honors in the game.
