Reed Signs UDFA Deal with Detroit Lions

Quarterback Verlon Reed has signed a free agent contract with the Detroit Lions and will be participating in rookie minicamp.

Reed, who was named honorable mention all-Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) in each of the past two seasons, threw for a school record 2,712 yards during his final year with the team and also connected on 22 touchdown passes. The signal caller also gained 634 yards on the ground to go along with seven rushing touchdowns.

As a junior, Reed threw for 1,791 yards and 11 touchdowns. He also accumulated 389 rushing yards and caught five passes for 152 yards and a score.

Before his time at Findlay, Reed caught nine passes for 132 yards in five games for The Ohio State University in 2011.

Reed was also a regional finalist for the Harlon Hill Trophy during his senior season at Findlay. The trophy is the highest award an individual player can receive at the NCAA Division II level.

In addition, safety Harold Jones-Quartey will be with the Arizona Cardinals for their rookie minicamp after being invited to attend.

Jones-Quartey was named second team all-conference as a senior and was a first team all-league pick during his junior season with the Oilers. He led the Oilers defense with 105 tackles as a senior. His 70 solo stops on the year ranked third in the conference and he also added 3.5 tackles for a loss.

Jones-Quartey was also an honorable mention All-American pick by D2Football.com for his performance during the 2014 campaign.
