Oilers to Practice at Marion Correctional

The University of Findlay football team will take their show on the road this Sunday, Aug. 23 to practice at the Marion Correctional Institution in Marion, Ohio.

"We are looking to form a partnership with MCI because we think it has a great opportunity to enhance both entities," said head coach Rob Keys. "Practicing at MCI will allow our players to train and compete in a different environment. It will also elevate the lives of the inmates, giving them the opportunity to watch and experience live football."

The Oilers will practice at 1:15 p.m. on Sunday until approximately 3:30 p.m. Marion Correctional Institution will then feed the players and coaching staff in their gymnasium at 4:00 p.m., after a former professional athlete and inmate addresses the team on the importance of making sound decisions. The team will then go on a tour of the facility before departing back to Findlay.

"We believe this trip will help educate our players on the value of making good decisions. I think a lot of our young athletes take what they have for granted. The decision-making skills they learn at college will help define them later in life."
