The Oilers football team will be back out on the road for their second game of the season on Sep. 12 against Tarleton State. The game is scheduled to begin at 8 p.m. in Stephenville, Texas.

The Series

The Oilers hold a 1-0 lead in the all-time series against Tarleton State dating back to the 1978 campaign when Findlay came out on top by a score of 13-6 in the first round of the NAIA Playoffs.

Head Coach Rob Keys

Head coach Rob Keys is in his fifth season at the helm of the Oilers football program in 2015.  He has recorded a 27-17 record with the program as a head coach, which includes a 24-16 mark in GLIAC games.

The Oilers

The Oilers began their season with a 45-34 win at Hillsdale last Saturday.

Sophomore quarterback Rhys Gervais finished the game with 364 yards passing and three touchdowns while completing 27 of his 34 passing attempts.

Sophomore running back Chauncey Bridges was the leading rusher for Findlay as he finished with 82 yards on 14 carries, including two touchdowns. Senior running back Daiquone Ford also ran well, finishing with 11 carries for 79 yards.

Sophomore wide receiver Jason Moore and Blunk each eclipsed the century mark as Moore had seven catches for 114 yards while Blunk, the Findlay native, had 102 yards receiving, also on seven catches, two of which were touchdowns.

The Oilers offense combined for 587 yards while the defense held the Chargers to 368 yards.

Leading the Findlay defense was junior defensive back Troy Robinson, who collected seven tackles on the night. Sophomore defensive tackle Jared Evers had four tackles, which included two sacks.

The Texans

The Texans, a NCAA Division II member since 1994, are coming off the 2014 season in which they finished 5-5 overall, including a season opening victory over the #11 ranked team in the country, West Texas A&M University. TSU finished with a 4-3 record in Lone Star Conference play and are picked to finish fourth in the 2015 season.

In 2014, the Texans averaged nearly 44 points per game, including a season high 80-point performance in a win over Texas A&M- Kingsville. TSU's offense averaged 222 yards rushing and threw for 300 yards per game.

Racking up the Points

The Oilers have had a high powered offensive attack during head coach Rob Keys tenure with the program. During his time with the Oilers, the team has scored over 40 points 15 times.

Dominating Non-Conference Games

The Oilers are currently 11-3 in non-conference games since entering the GLIAC during the 1998 season.  Findlay has also won 11 out of their last 13 games against non-conference opponents dating back to the 2002 campaign.

Moving on Up

Senior running back Daiquone Ford ranks tenth on the Oilers all-time rushing list with 2,628 career yards. Ford is chasing Lawrence Coleman for ninth place on the all-time list. Coleman racked up 2,739 career yards for Findlay from 1982-85.

Ford, who has battled injuries during his career with the Oilers, had a monster sophomore campaign when he was a regional finalist for the Harlon Hill Trophy, the NCAA Division II equivalent of the Heisman Trophy. The Myrtle Beach, S.C. native racked up 1,789 rushing yards, the second highest single-season total in school history, and also darted his way to 24 touchdowns, the best total in the history of the program.

A Stellar Debut

Sophomore quarterback Rhys Gervais and sophomore wide receiver Jason Moore had stellar debuts for the Oilers in their first collegiate games against Hillsdale. Gervais finished the game by completing 27-of-34 passing attempts for 364 yards and three touchdowns. He also ran three times for 25 yards in the win. Moore meanwhile made seven catches for 114 yards.

Explosive and Dominating Offense

The Oilers had eight plays of over 20 yards during their 45-34 win at Hillsdale in week one. The longest play came via the run game with sophomore running back Chauncey Bridges scampering for a 55-yard gain during the fourth quarter.

Overall, the Oilers churned out 587 yards of total offense in the victory and averaged 8.0 yards per play. They also dominated time of possession, holding the ball for 39:29 in the game.
