Oilers Win OT Thriller Against Northwood

Box Score

The University of Findlay football team came away with a 37-34 win in overtime against Northwood University on Oct. 17 at Donnell Stadium. The Oilers, who lost an overtime game last week against Walsh, sent the Homecoming crowd home happy as they improved to 4-3 on the year with a 3-3 record in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play.

Northwood got the first possession of the extra session and the Oilers defense came up huge by holding them to a field goal. The Oilers then took control of the ball and didn't waste any time as sophomore quarterback Rhys Gervais connected on a 25-yard touchdown pass to junior wide receiver Dylan Blunk on their first play.

The Oilers rolled up 500 yards of total offense and were led by Gervais and his 301 passing yards. The signal caller completed 16-of-26 passing attempts for three touchdowns. Blunk meanwhile caught six passes for 111 yards, which also included two touchdown grabs.

Sophomore wide receiver Airion Kosak made four receptions for 77 yards while sophomore tight end Anthony Federico caught two balls for 64 yards. Senior wide receiver Tim Szabo made two catches for 27 yards a score too.

Senior running back Daiquone Ford rushed 14 times for 73 yards and a touchdown while sophomore running back Chauncey Bridges carried 11 times for 55 yards. Freshman running back Marcus Jones had six carries for 19 yards and a touchdown while sophomore quarterback Darnell Fields had two carries for 22 yards.

Mark Morris led Northwood with 270 passing yards.

Defensively, junior linebacker Myles Alexander had 15 tackles. Freshman defensive tackle Marcus Johnson recovered a fumble while freshman linebacker Justin Carter recorded a sack.

The Oilers will be back in action again next week at 18th-ranked Grand Valley State. Kickoff is slated for 7pm in Allendale, Mich.
