Gervais a Candidate for Harlon Hill Trophy

Gervais a Candidate for Harlon Hill Trophy

Sophomore quarterback Rhys Gervais has been announced as one of thirty-eight candidates for the Harlon Hill Trophy which is given every year to the Most Valuable Player in Division II football.

Gervais put together one of the best statistical seasons in Oilers football history as he led the Orange and Black with a lethal passing attack. For the year, the sophomore quarterback was able to rack up 3,353 passing yards while completing 228 of his 362 pass attempts. Each of those numbers set new records at Findlay along with his total offense (3,439) and passing touchdowns in a season (33). Gervais' 3,353 passing yards rank him ninth in the country in that statistic while his 33 touchdowns are good for seventh.

The Puyllap, Wash. native threw for 304.8 yards per game, which ranked him as the ninth best in the country in that statistic, while his passing efficiency of 165.3 is the fourth-best in DII football.

The Harlon Hill Trophy has been awarded every year since 1986 and has been won by a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Player (GLIAC) two times; Grand Valley State quarterback Curt Anes in 2002 and Ferris State quarterback Jason Vander Laan in 2014.

Candidates from each of the four NCAA regions will be placed on a regional ballots with the top two from each region advancing to the national ballot. The winner of the 2015 award, which is presented by the National Harlon Hill Award Committee, will be announced on Friday, December 18 via a webcast and the winner will be honored at a luncheon on the University of North Alabama campus on January 8, 2016.
