#10 Oilers Defeat Lakers 70-56

The University of Findlay men's basketball team, ranked 10th in the nation, came away with a 70-56 victory over Lake Superior State University on Saturday, February 26 in Croy Gymnasium. The victory gives the Oilers a 23-3 record on the year as they end the regular season with a 16-3 mark in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC).

The Oilers got great production from their bench in the first half as sophomore forward Brad Piehl scored 11 points in the opening period to help Findlay claim a 33-29 lead at the break. They then took care of business in the second half to capture their 104th straight regular season victory in Croy Gymnasium.

Junior guard Kyle Caiola led the team with 17 points while Piehl and sophomore forward Jack Smith added 15 points apiece.

Piehl also contributed six rebounds and two blocks to go along with his new career-high point total while Smith recorded a career-high six assists.

As a team, the Oilers shot 52.3 percent (23-of-44) from the floor and connected on 8-of-23 (34.8%) of their three point tries.

Micah Hudson and Derek Billing led the Lakers with 13 points apiece.

The Oilers will be back in action again on Wednesday, March 2 when they will host Lake Superior State in a first round GLIAC Tournament game at 6 pm.
