Warriors Rock #1 Oilers

The University of Findlay men's basketball team, the top ranked team in the latest National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) poll, fell behind early and never recovered as they fell 91-68 to Wayne State University on Saturday, January 8 in Detroit, Michigan. The loss gives the Oilers a 12-1 record on the season with a 5-1 mark in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC).

The Oilers fell behind 8-0 in the first two minutes of the game and found themselves down 51-33 at the break. Findlay then made a small run in the beginning of the second half, but it wasn't enough as the Warriors turned on the pressure and retook control of the game to come up with the victory.

The Warriors scorched the nets, hitting 61.5 percent (40-of-65) of their shots and also forced the Oilers into 19 turnovers. Findlay also shot only 43.2 percent (19-of-44) from the floor and were limited to only three assists in the game.

Junior guard Kyle Caiola led the team with 19 points while senior guard Nathan Hyde contributed 17.

Sophomore forward Jack Smith also broke into double figures with 13 points in the loss.

The Warriors were led by Mike Hollingsworth, who scored a game-high 24 points.

Bryan Smothers added 19 points, eight assists and five rebounds for Wayne State as well.

The Oilers will be back in action again on Thursday, January 13 when they host Lake Erie College at 6 pm.
