Oilers to Host York on Saturday

The University of Findlay men's basketball team will begin their season with an exhibition game at home against York University.  The contest is scheduled to take place on Saturday, October 29 at 3 pm in Croy Gymnasium and will be free and open to the public.

Notes

The Oilers game against York University will not be aired on the radio due to Findlay's football game against Ashland University.

The Series

The Oilers defeated the Lions by a score of 94-66 in an exhibition game during the 2009-10 campaign.

Nathan Hyde scored a game-high 20 points for the Oilers, hitting four three pointers on the way.

Aaron Robinson pumped in 14 points and Jack Smith scored 12.

Rob Marsden dropped in 12 points while Greg Avery and JoVaughn Brown each tallied 11 points apiece in the victory.

Marsden and Robinson pulled down 8 rebounds apiece while Avery made five steals.

York received 21 points from Dejan Kravic in the game.

The University of Findlay

The Oilers finished last season with a 24-4 record, winning their ninth GLIAC South Division title in the past ten years.

Findlay returns nine letter winners and three starters to the 2011-12 edition of the team and have high expectations as they are ranked fifth in the Division II Bulletin Preseason Poll.

York University

York finished with a 10-12 record last year and will be led by David Tyndale and Dejan Kravic, who averaged 16.2 and 15.6 points per game, respectively.

Kravic also grabbed 9.6 rebounds per contest.

Simply The Best

 The Oilers have the best winning percentage in NCAA Division II competition since the year 2000, having won 286 games and lost only 57 for a percentage of .834.

Regular Season Home Winning Streak

 The Oilers have won 104 straight regular season games in Croy Gymnasium with their last home loss coming against Gannon University on February 12, 2004 in 70-68 fashion. 

Counting tournament play at home, the Oilers have won 70 straight games in Croy Gymnasium.

A Tough Place To Play

 The Oilers are 511-106 (.828) in Croy Gymnasium since they starting playing home games there during the 1969-70 season. 

In the past eight years, the Oilers are a staggering 138-2 at home for a winning percentage of .986.

Conference Championships

The Oilers have won ten GLIAC South Division titles in their 14-year affiliation with the conference and have also won five conference tournaments, capturing titles in 2004, 2005, 2007, 2009 and 2010.

GLIAC Tournament Success

The Oilers currently sport a 22-6 record in the GLIAC Tournament, winning titles in 2004, 2005, 2007, 2009 and 2010. 

Findlay has appeared in the championship game of the event seven times in the past nine years.  They reached the finals in 2003, 2004, 2005, 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2010.

National Elite

The Oilers have appeared in nine of the last ten NCAA Division II National Tournaments with a 15-8 record, reaching the Elite Eight during the 2004-05 campaign and the Final Four in the 2008-09 season when they captured their first NCAA Division II National Championship. 

They also reached the Sweet 16 during the 2007-08 campaign.

Preseason Polls

The Oilers are ranked fifth in the Preseason Division II Bulletin Poll, which was released on Thursday, October 13.

The Oilers finished last season with a 24-4 record, winning their ninth GLIAC South Division title in the past ten years.

Preseason All-American

Senior guard Kyle Caiola was tabbed an honorable mention All-American by the Sporting News.

Caiola, a first team all-conference selection last year, averaged 14.0 points per game during his junior season.
