Oilers Travel to Dayton for an Exhibition Game

The University of Findlay men's basketball team, ranked seventh in the NABC/NCAA Division II poll, will face the University of Dayton in an exhibition game on Saturday, November 5.  The game is scheduled to begin at 7 pm in Dayton, Ohio.

The Series

The Oilers were defeated by the Flyers last season in an exhibition game, 85-68 at UD Arena.

Nathan Hyde scored a game-high 21 points on 6-of-13 shooting.

Hyde connected on 4-of-9 shots from behind the three point line and also tallied a team-high seven rebounds.

Aaron Robinson contributed 16 points on 7-of-9 shooting while Kyle Caiola chipped in seven points, three rebounds and a pair of assists.

As a team, the Oilers shot 44.2 percent (23-of-52) from the floor while the Flyers hit 48.1 percent (26-of-54) of their attempts.

The Flyers also held a 39-28 advantage on the boards and forced 17 Findlay turnovers.

The University of Findlay

The University of Findlay men's basketball team, ranked seventh in the NABC poll, knocked off York University by a score of 93-75 in an exhibition game on Saturday, October 29 in Croy Gymnasium.

The Oilers shot 48.6 percent (34-of-70) from the floor, hitting 11-of-29 (37.9%) of their three point attempts along the way.

York meanwhile connected on 51.8 percent (29-of-56) of their shots, but turned the ball over 27 times as the Oilers racked up 18 steals.  The turnovers proved to be the difference as Findlay scored 34 points off of them in the win.

Senior guard Kyle Caiola led the team with 22 points on 8-of-10 shooting.  The Parma, Ohio native also hit 4-of-5 three point attempts and added four assists and three steals.

Sophomore forward Greg Kahlig recorded 18 points on 6-of-9 shooting while sophomore guard Sean Samsel came off the bench to hit 4-of-7 shots from behind the three point line for 12 points.

Kahlig splashed 3-of-5 triple tries and added five rebounds for the Oilers as well.

Junior forwards Jack Smith and Brad Piehl registered eight points apiece while junior guard Aaron Robinson tallied seven.

Freshmen Jake Heagen and Josh Brown scored six points point each in the win off the bench.

University of Dayton

The Flyers finished last season with a 22-14 record and were picked to finish sixth in the Atlantic 10 this year.

Chris Johnson is their top returning player after averaging 11.9 points and 6.0 rebounds per game during the 2010-11 campaign.

Simply The Best

The Oilers have the best winning percentage in NCAA Division II competition since the year 2000, having won 286 games and lost only 57 for a percentage of .834.

Home Winning Streak

The Oilers have won 70 straight games in Croy Gymnasium, the longest streak in the nation.

The last time the Oilers were defeated at home was a 60-56 setback against Northern Kentucky University in the NCAA Division II Midwest Regional on March 11, 2007.

Regular Season Home Winning Streak

The Oilers have won 104 straight regular season games in Croy Gymnasium with their last home loss coming against Gannon University on February 12, 2004 in 70-68 fashion. 

A Tough Place To Play

The Oilers are 511-106 (.828) in Croy Gymnasium since they starting playing home games there during the 1969-70 season.

The Oilers have been perfect at home in the past four seasons, achieving a 70-0 record.

In the past eight years, the Oilers are a staggering 138-2 at home for a winning percentage of .986.

Conference Championships

The Oilers have won ten GLIAC South Division titles in their 14-year affiliation with the conference and have also won five conference tournaments, capturing titles in 2004, 2005, 2007, 2009 and 2010.

In the last ten years, the Oilers have won nine GLIAC South Division titles.

GLIAC Tournament Success

The Oilers currently sport a 22-6 record in the GLIAC Tournament, winning titles in 2004, 2005, 2007, 2009 and 2010. 

Findlay has appeared in the championship game of the event seven times in the past nine years.  They reached the finals in 2003, 2004, 2005, 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2010.

National Elite

The Oilers have appeared in nine of the last ten NCAA Division II National Tournaments with a 15-8 record, reaching the Elite Eight during the 2004-05 campaign and the Final Four in the 2008-09 season when they captured their first NCAA Division II National Championship. 

They also reached the Sweet 16 during the 2007-08 campaign.

Preseason GLIAC Poll

The Oilers received a league-best 170 points and 20 first place votes in the 2011-12 Preseason GLIAC Poll, which was released on November 2.

They have won nine GLIAC South Division titles in the past ten years.

Preseason All-GLIAC

Senior guard Kyle Caiola was tabbed a first team all-conference pick while junior guard Aaron Robinson earned second team all-league honors during the preseason.

Caiola, who was a first team all-league pick last year, averaged 14.0 points per game last season.

Robinson, an all-defensive team selection last year, averaged 10.2 points and 4.4 rebounds per game in 2010-11.

Preseason Polls

The Oilers are ranked seventh in the initial National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) poll, which was released on Tuesday, November 1.

The Oilers are also ranked fifth in the Preseason Division II Bulletin Poll, which was released on Thursday, October 13.

The Oilers finished last season with a 24-4 record, winning their ninth GLIAC South Division title in the past ten years.

Preseason All-American

Senior guard Kyle Caiola was tabbed an honorable mention All-American by the Sporting News.

Caiola, a first team all-conference selection last year, averaged 14.0 points per game during his junior season.
