#7 Oilers Rout Illinois-Springfield 77-57

The University of Findlay men's basketball team, ranked seventh in the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) poll, cruised to a 77-57 win over the University of Illinois-Springfield on Monday, November 28 in Springfield, Illinois.

The Oilers, who improved their record to 4-1 on the year, took a 35-19 advantage at the break and saw their lead trimmed to nine points at 44-35 with 13:18 to play.  It was all Findlay after that however as the Oilers went on a 26-5 run in the next eight minutes to blow the game open.

As a team, Findlay shot 47.2 percent (25-of-53) from the field and drained 10-of-18 (55.6%) shots from three point range.

The Oilers also held a 45-28 advantage on the boards and held the Prairie Stars to a mere 36.4 percent (20-of-55) shooting clip.

Individually, junior forward Brad Piehl led the team with 14 points as he hit 4-of-6 shots from the field and 6-of-6 attempts from the free throw line.

Junior forward Jack Smith recorded a double-double with 11 points and a career-high tying 12 rebounds while junior guard Aaron Robinson splashed three triples en route to 11 points.

Sophomore guard Sean Samsel came off the bench to provide a season-high ten points while freshman forward Jake Heagen chipped in eight points and a career-high seven rebounds.

Lester Hart led Illinois-Springfield with a game-high 15 points.

The Oilers will hit the hardwood again on Thursday when they host Northwood University in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) action.  The contest is scheduled to begin at 8 pm in Croy Gymnasium.
