#9 Oilers Defeat Cardinals 75-63

The University of Findlay men's basketball team, ranked ninth in the nation, defeated Saginaw Valley State University by a score of 75-63 on Saturday, December 10 in Croy Gymnasium.

The Oilers, who only shot 38.5 percent (25-of-65) from the field, improved to 7-2 on the season with a 2-1 record in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) with the victory.

Senior guard Kyle Caiola led five Oilers players in double figures with 18 points.

He hit 5-of-12 shots from the field and went 7-of-8 from the charity stripe.

Sophomore guard Sean Samsel came off the bench to drill 4-of-6 shots from three point range en route to a career-high 13 points while junior forward Jack Smith chipped in 13 points of his own.

Junior forward Brad Piehl and sophomore forward Greg Kahlig each contributed ten points in the victory while sophomore forward Mark Frilling registered six points and a career-high 12 rebounds.

As a team, the Oilers connected on 18-of-22 (81.8%) shots from the free throw line and also recorded ten steals in the game.

The Cardinals were led by Greg Foster, who recorded a double-double with 21 points and 13 rebounds.

Michael Fugate also reached double figures with 12 points on the afternoon.

The Oilers will be back in action again on Thursday, December 15 when they host Tiffin University at 8 pm in Croy Gymnasium.
