#17 Oilers Fall 94-80 at Ashland

The University of Findlay men's basketball team, ranked 17th in the nation, fell 94-80 to Ashland University on Thursday, January 5 in Ashland, Ohio.  The loss gives the Oilers a 10-3 record on the season with a 4-2 mark in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC).

The Oilers found themselves down by 13 points with a minute to go in the first half, but scored five straight points including a half court shot by sophomore forward Greg Kahlig to cut the lead to eight at 42-34.

In the second half, the Eagles consistently held double digit leads and although the Oilers made a few runs, the deficit proved too much for them to overcome.

The Oilers shot 47.5 percent (29-of-61) from the floor while the Eagles connected on 54.5 percent (30-of-55) of their shots.

The Eagles also drained 8-of-14 (57.1%) of their three point attempts and drilled 26-of-27 (96.3%) shots from the charity stripe.

Kahlig led the Oilers with 20 points on 7-of-11 shooting while freshman forward Jake Heagen contributed 13 points off the bench.

Junior forward Brad Piehl and sophomore guard Sean Samsel recorded 11 points apiece while senior guard Kyle Caiola chipped in ten.

The Eagles got 31 points from Ronnie Steward while Evan Yates contributed 20.

The Oilers will return home to face Wayne State University at 3 pm on Saturday in Croy Gymnasium.
