Oilers Fall Short at Tiffin, Lose 77-74

The University of Findlay men's basketball team fell 77-74 to Tiffin University on Thursday, Feb. 9 in Tiffin, Ohio.  The loss gives the Oilers a 16-6 record on the season with a 10-5 record in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC).

The Oilers, who were down by as many as 18 points in the second half, battled back and took a 74-73 lead on a three pointer by sophomore forward Greg Kahlig with 2:55 remaining in the game.  Unfortunately, the Oilers would not score any more points as they missed five shots and turned the ball over once down the stretch to seal their fate.

Tiffin connected on 51 percent (26-of-51) of their shots and drilled 7-of-17 (42.1%) of their three point tries.  The Oilers meanwhile hit 40.3 percent (25-of-62) of their field goal attempts and drilled a season-high 13-of-33 (39.4%) three point shots.

Kahlig led the team with a season-high 27 points to go along with ten rebounds.  The Ft. Recovery, Ohio native drilled a career-high 5-of-7 shots from long range and also tallied three assists in the loss.

Senior guard Kyle Caiola also reached double figures, scoring 17 points on 5-of-11 shooting.

Freshman forward Jake Heagen played well off the bench as he contributed nine points and seven rebounds.

The Dragons got standout games from both Karl Finley and Joe Graessle, who recorded 29 and 24 points, respectively.

The Oilers will return to action again on Saturday when they travel to Columbus, Ohio to face Ohio Dominican University at 3 pm.
