Caiola Named 1st Team All-GLIAC

Senior guard Kyle Caiola was named first team all-Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) for the second consecutive season as the league office unveiled their annual awards on Friday, March 2 in Hillsdale, Mich.

Caiola is averaging 14.9 points, 3.8 assists, 2.7 rebounds and 1.4 steals per game for the Oilers.  He is also shooting 48.3 percent from the field, 44.1 percent from behind the three point line and 92.4 percent from the charity stripe, which is the second best mark in the nation.

The Parma, Ohio native has scored in double figures 21 times on the year and recently broke a school record for most made free throws by going 19-of-20 from the line in the Oilers 72-66 win over Grand Valley State University on Feb. 29.  His makes and attempts from the free throw line were also good enough to establish new marks for a GLIAC Tournament game.

In addition, sophomore forward Greg Kahlig was named second team all-conference while junior guard Aaron Robinson earned a spot on the all-defensive team for the second season in a row.

Kahlig is averaging 13.3 points, 4.9 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 1.0 steals per game this year.  He is also connecting on 55.1 percent of his field goal attempts, 44.9 percent of his three pointers and 80.2 percent of his shots from the free throw line.

The Ft. Recovery, Ohio native has scored in double figures 21 times on the season and leads the Oilers with 47 offensive rebounds.

Robinson meanwhile is averaging 7.5 points, 3.3 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.0 steals per game.

Michigan Tech's Ali Haidar was chosen as the 2012 GLIAC Player of the Year while Tiffin's Iman Johnson was tabbed as the Freshman of the Year.

Northwood's Jeff Rekeweg earned the 2012 GLIAC Coach of the Year honor after leading the Timberwolves to the North Division title.
