#1 Hilltoppers Take Down #8 Oilers 90-74

The University of Findlay men's basketball team, ranked eighth in the nation, lost 90-74 to top-ranked West Liberty State University on Wednesday, Nov. 14 in Croy Gymnasium.

The Oilers shot only 29.6 percent (8-of-27) from the field in the opening half as the Hilltoppers raced out to a 39-23 lead.  West Liberty State then extended their lead to as many as 28-points in the second half as the Oilers suffered their first opening game loss since the 2002-03 campaign when they were defeated 70-62 by Northern Kentucky University.

As a team, West Liberty State shot 49.3 percent (35-of-71) from the floor while the Oilers connected on 44.6 percent (25-of-56) of their field goal attempts.  The Hilltoppers also forced 22 Findlay turnovers and held a 54-30 advantage in points in the paint.

Senior forward Brad Piehl led the Oilers with 15 points and four rebounds while junior forward Greg Kahlig had 14 points, three rebounds and three assists.

Senior guard Aaron Robinson also reached double figures with 12 points to go along with eight rebounds.

The Hilltoppers were paced by Alex Falk, who scored a game-high 37 points on 13-of-19 shooting.

Findlay will return to the court on Saturday, Nov. 17 when they host Cedarville University at 3 p.m. in Croy Gymnasium.
