#8 Oilers Sting Yellow Jackets 74-65

The University of Findlay men's basketball team, ranked eighth in the nation, claimed a 74-65 win over Cedarville University on Saturday, Nov. 17 in Croy Gymnasium.  The non-conference victory evens the Oilers record at 1-1 on the year.

The Oilers narrowly held a one-point lead at the break as they entered halftime with a 31-30 lead.  They then out-scored the Yellow Jackets by a 43-35 margin in the second period to pull away despite shooting only 39.1 percent (18-of-46) from the field.

Findlay hit only 3-of-14 (21.4%) shot attempts from behind the three point line and did most of their damage at the charity stripe where they connected on 35-of-40 (87.5%) tries.

The Oilers also out-rebounded Cedarville by a 40-29 margin and held the Yellow Jackets to a 37.9 percent (22-of-58) shooting clip.

Junior forward Greg Kahlig led the way with 23 points on 7-of-10 shooting.  Kahlig also added six rebounds and made 8-of-10 attempts from the free throw line in the game.

Senior forward Brad Piehl also reached double figures with 18 points on 5-of-9 shooting.  Piehl also recorded six rebounds while making 8-of-9 free throw attempts in the win.

Sophomore forward Jake Heagen and junior guard Sean Samsel narrowly missed out on reaching double figures with nine points each while senior guard Aaron Robinson stuffed the stat sheet with eight points, four rebounds, four assists and two steals.

The Yellow Jackets were led by Austin Foote's 18 points.

The Oilers will return to the court again on Monday, Nov. 26 to host Notre Dame College at 7:30 p.m.
