#24 Oilers Defeat Lakers 64-60

The University of Findlay men's basketball team, ranked 24th in the nation, hung on for a 64-60 win over Grand Valley State University in a physical Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) contest on Monday in Croy Gymnasium.

The Oilers trailed by a score of 28-27 at the half, but built a nine-point lead in the second half.  They then survived a rally by the Lakers in the final minute as they hit four free throws in the final 20 seconds to seal the game.

Findlay shot only 34.8 percent (16-of-46) from the floor, but did most of their damage from the free throw line as they connected on 25-of-33 (75.8%) attempts.  The Oilers also hit 7-of-20 (35%) three point shots and forced 19 turnovers in the victory.

The Lakers meanwhile hit 48.9 percent (23-of-47) of their field goal attempts in the game.

Junior forward Greg Kahlig led the way with 14 points while senior forward Brad Piehl chipped in 13 points and six rebounds.

Sophomore forward Jake Heagen added nine points and six rebounds while senior guard Aaron Robinson recorded eight points and four boards.

Junior forward Mark Frilling contributed six points and six rebounds off the bench as well for the Oilers.

Breland Hogan led the Lakers with 23 points.

The Oilers will be back at home on Dec. 29 to host Northwestern Ohio at 3 p.m.
