Oilers Drop 2nd Straight, Fall 61-60 to Ashland

The University of Findlay men's basketball team lost 61-60 in the final seconds to Ashland University on Thursday, Jan. 17 in Ashland, Ohio.

The Oilers, who led for almost the entire game, held a 60-57 lead with 36 seconds left.  A lay-up by Ashland's Will Evans cut the lead to one with only 17 seconds remaining and after a foul by the Eagles, senior guard Aaron Robinson went to the free throw line for the Oilers.  Robinson missed both of his attempts however and Ashland's DaWuan Thomas made his only bucket of the game with 1.5 seconds left to give the Eagles the win.

Findlay shot 37.7 percent (20-of-53) from the floor, connecting on only 6-of-21 (28.6%) three point tries.  The Eagles meanwhile shot 40 percent (24-of-60) from the field and out-rebounded the Oilers by a 44-32 margin.

Junior forward Greg Kahlig led the team with a game-high 21 points.

The Eagles were led by Evan Yates and Ronnie Steward, who each had 15 points in the game.

The Oilers, who are now 10-5 on the year with a 7-4 record in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC), will be back at it again on Saturday when they travel to Painesville, Ohio to take on Lake Erie College.  The GLIAC South Division contest is scheduled to tip at 1 p.m.
