Free Throw Shooting Gives Oilers 78-63 Win Over Panthers

The University of Findlay men's basketball team came away with a 78-63 win over Ohio Dominican University on Thursday, Feb. 7 in Columbus, Ohio.

The Oilers, who improved to 14-6 on the season with an 11-5 record in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC), trailed by a score of 31-28 at the break, but out-scored the Panthers by a 50-32 margin in the second half to pick up the victory. 

Findlay shot only 38.8 percent (19-of-49) from the field as they did most of their damage from the free throw line in the game.  The Oilers hit 34-of-42 (81%) attempts from the free throw line and also held a 42-36 edge in the rebounding department.

Junior forward Greg Kahlig led four Oilers players in double figures with 16 points and six rebounds.  Kahlig hit only 4-of-12 shot attempts, but connected on all seven of his shots from the charity stripe.

Senior forward Brad Piehl added 15 points and seven boards, making all ten of his free throw attempts, while freshman guard Alphonso Baity had 12 points on 3-of-4 shooting.

Freshman forward Dylan Kaufman came off the bench to provide ten points and three rebounds while senior forward Jack Smith had seven points and five boards.

Senior guard Aaron Robinson tallied seven points while sophomore forward Jake Heagen had six points and seven rebounds.

Junior forward Mark Frilling only scored two points, but had a team-high eight boards in the win.

The Panthers, who shot 35.5 percent (22-of-62) from the floor, were led by Morgan Jones' 16 points.

The Oilers will be back in action again on Saturday when they travel to Tiffin, Ohio to take on Tiffin University at 1 p.m.
