Oilers Win 74-66 Over Hillsdale

The University of Findlay men's basketball team captured a 74-66 win over Hillsdale College on Saturday, March 2 in Croy Gymnasium.  The victory gives the Oilers a 19-7 record on the season with a 16-6 mark in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC).

The Oilers shot 45.7 percent (21-of-46) from the floor and canned 10-of-20 (50%) shot attempts from behind the three point line in the win.  Findlay also connected on 88 percent (22-of-25) of their free throw attempts and held the Chargers to a 39.3 percent (22-of-56) shooting clip.

Junior forward Greg Kahlig led the way with 27 points on 6-of-7 shooting.  He hit 4-of-5 shot attempts from long range and drained all ten of his shots from the charity stripe in the win.

The Ft. Recovery, Ohio native also grabbed five rebounds and blocked three shots in the game.

Senior guard Aaron Robinson added 13 points as he became the 42nd member of the Oilers 1,000-point club after canning a free throw with 35 seconds left to put the team up by nine at 71-62.

Sophomore forward Jake Heagen contributed 12 points and five rebounds while junior guard Sean Samsel and senior forward Jack Smith chipped in seven points apiece off the bench.

Senior forward Brad Piehl added four points and a team-high six rebounds as well for Findlay.

Tim Dezelski led the Chargers with 21 points, seven rebounds, four steals and two assists.

The Oilers will host a first round tournament game against Ferris State University on March 6 at 6 p.m.
